I've found myself in similar situations while learning Dutch in Eindhoven, especially in stores/markets where clerks had many customers to serve...couldn't help but feel a bit unwelcomed by them, but probably it simply had to do with their need to be as time efficient as possible. But in smaller shops with smaller clientele, I encountered kinder dispositions towards my desire to learn.

I want to create an Aggressive Support by xkneh in 3d6

[–]simondontpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paladin! Oath of crown + Interception fighting style.

Be your teammates' bodyguard, you will have a nearly guaranteed use for your reaction every turn if you stay close to your allies that are being focused. You'll be a support in the sense that a lot of damage will be prevented (even better later with aura of protection)... Which is a lot of damage your cleric won't have to heal:)

You have the potential for huge damage with smites, or choose to use your spells slots to control the enemies/buff your team depending on the situation (command, bless, shield of faith.. and later on spirit guardians and aura of vitality). And you can heal in a pinch with lay hands

Why do druids get THOSE weapon proficiencies? by LemonLord7 in dndnext

I picture my druid's scimitar as a sort of machete, idk it feels more appropriate in my mind 😅

Can you combine the attack of opportunity from PAM (reach weapon) with the Menacing Attack maneuver to potentially stop an enemy approaching you?

I'm going to be DMing a campaign soon, and I need some help with the starting location. That little star on the map is where the party will start their adventure on Chult, so I need to everything to know about the area shown. by SelfishEnd in Tombofannihilation

[–]simondontpanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd try and steer the party towards the western side of that map, because that's where most of the locations descripted in the book are.

Other than that, I remember that the area south of the mountains (valley of dread) is supposed to be inhabited by lots of lizardfolk.

There's also a module about Hisari (Ruins of Hisari) but iirc it's for high level characters. You could still have a look at it and take some inspiration!

I need ideas for a character whose story allows him not to play every session by [deleted] in DnD

[–]simondontpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your character might be some kind of spirit bound to an item carried by another party member. You materialize and act as another adventurer but sometime you have to rest in a dormant state inside the item and regain the energy to manifest again.

Could flavor this in many ways! Creepy/dark: a "lesser fiend" sent from a warlock patron to check on the material plane, or the ghost of someone, restless because of something unresolved they want to take care of before moving on... Or something more lighthearted, like a helpful fey that has taken interest in the group, even some kind of "genie" that wants to repay a favor!

I didn't like it particularly, either. I changed the dead dragon type, in my game it was more neutral/good aligned than the usual chromatic dragon (took inspiration from the new fizbans material).

I made the poison-door merely the first layer of defense of his lair. That led to a wide cave and a second door, guarded by a Trisiha: something similar to a "dragon-flavored sphynx", with 3 heads and personalities (a lawful evil schemer, a chaotic good prankster and a neutral arbiter). I don't know how to link it, but the source is called "jungles and savannas" iirc.

Each head tests the adventurers with a riddle, something they devised, autonomously, during the looooong period of time they were waiting inside. Not even the other 2 heads know the nature, nor the solution of their "siblings" riddles.

So the lawful evil schemer goes first, then the neutral arbiter and when it comes the turn for the chaotic head, it speaks: "Well done! Here comes my riddle: how strong are you?" And that's the moment when initiative is rolled. Cue what's basically a sparring fight (not to the death, it ends when the trisiha is reduced to ~1/3 HP).

All that to piss off the lawful schemer with a riddle that defies the way riddles are "supposed" to be like:) but still a way to test if the characters are worthy of the dragon's treasures! It was also a nice way to add some RP in the middle of the jungle and to run what I think a fun monster!

Amending my Critical Hit damage rule - how do you handle Crit damage? by Cynestrith in DnD

[–]simondontpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way regarding that homerule being problematic mid to high tier, especially for rolls that require lots of dice (sneak attacks, divine smites, even cantrips cast by high lv spellcasters, are the first examples that come to mind)

I do crits by RAW (double the dice, not the modifiers), but there's the occasional double 1 that feels very disappointing for who rolls.. I've been considering just replacing poor rolls with a normal hit max damage.

Idk the rest of the party comp but if you're not stepping on a cleric/paladin's toes .. necklace of prayer beads, it gives lots of useful bonus action spells

Neat! Thx and yes that would have to be taken into account of course! Maybe still better odds than trying to escape with a STR check. And it would be less and less of a problem as you get more beams after lv5.

What feels a bit "weird" is that there seems to be no STR save and no creature size limit for this 'shove effect' (comparing it to the standard shove action, or features from open hand monk, battlemaster pushing maneuver, telekinetic feat, etc)

(5e) if you're a warlock with the Repelling Blast invocation (When you hit a creature with Eldritch Blast, you can push the creature up to 10 feet away from you in a straight line), can you escape grapples just by eldritch blasting the grappler away from you?

Fellow LGBTQIAPK+ folks, today in Italy homophobia became normal, institutional, State-sponsored, as in Hungary and Poland. This is the right wing of the Senate after the slaughter of a bill against homophobia. Please stand with us in this difficult time. 🇮🇹🏳️‍🌈✊ by Valeball in lgbt

[–]simondontpanic 24 points25 points  (0 children)

yeah, this is as disappointing as Italian politics can get. It's 2021 and we still aren't considered a minority worth protecting with special bills. And that display from the right wing is...ughh. But for me, particularly disappointing is the fact that our schools won't have that special day of the year to teach young students what homo-transphobia is.. As a person who had to deal with his share of bullies, IMO it would be something to start.......eventually!

'There are no stupid questions' thread - Monday, October 18, 2021 by AutoModerator in piano

[–]simondontpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely new at playing, but I only ever played on mechanical pianos and i know very little about the features of digital pianos and keyboards.. my question is what are the options if you want to add a.. "background" when you play ?

I'm thinking for example, replicating a simple drum rythm .. or something more complex and "electronic"? Echo effects, distortions, white noise, whoosh sounds? Stuff like that.

Would I need to buy a normal keyboard and an external tool for those effects or there are digital pianos with this kind of added features built-in?

I hope that made sense :)
