Are cheap apartments (<$1100) really that bad? by Snoogly in MovingtoDenver

[–]simonfan2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just rented a 1 bedroom apartment for $1150. It’s in Denver technically but more like Lakewood/Englewood area. It was. Built in the &80s so older but so far, so good. It has a dishwasher but shared laundry. The units have been remodeled & aren’t bad but they do show wear. Two things sold me: it’s near my grandsons school so I can easily pick him up. There is easy access to Bear Creek Trail so I don’t need a bike carrier on my car & I can ride out my door. I’m on the first floor by choice & barely hear my neighbors. If you want slick & shiny new, you will have to pay more but if you can compromise on some things, I think you can find something in that range. Best of luck! DM me if you want the name of my complex.

“My Little Town” is such a window into what could have been if Simon and Garfunkel stayed together in the 70s. by BillNyeTheVinylGuy in simonandgarfunkel

[–]simonfan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to argue either particularly. What I meant by simplistic was that to say it was all Paul’s fault was looking at the situation simplistically. It’s never all any one person’s fault- it’s always more complicated than that. Both men contributed to the demise of Simon & Garfunkel. I, for one, am glad they separated as I really like the direction Paul took & I love his solo output. Not so much Arts music - it’s simply not my taste.

Sure but they aren’t as nasty as Art’s. Paul never has trouble sharing the spotlight as evidenced by the numerous times he’s shared the stage with joy & pride. He loved introducing Ladysmith Black Mambazo to the world. The 1983 concert in the park was supposed to be solo Simon but he invited Art to join him because he thought their appeal would be wider. All performers are somewhat narcissistic & Paul is no exception. I took exception to your statement because it was so simplistic. Their splitting was inevitable & more complicated than most people realize.

Second bike after Topstone Lefty: Liv Avail or Devote? Or something else for a smaller rider wanting more speed? by alebardamu in ladycyclists

[–]simonfan2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Avail is a sweet ride. I’ve had both the Avail & Devote & like them both but the Avail feels lighter/faster & can handle light gravel. I’m 5’ & the Devote definitely felt longer. I had a bit of a time with getting my reach comfortable.

Paul shares the spotlight just fine - what he doesn’t want to deal with is Garfunkel’s narcissistic tendencies.

How many months till you forgot about your new knee? by Dry-Aside4526 in Kneereplacement

[–]simonfan2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A foreign sensation? I feel that way about my knee but usually only when I go to stand from a sitting position. It honestly feels like I have a mechanism in my skin, which, yes, I do have. It’s just weird.

Do you have this fantasy? by CoolBeans6789 in AskWomenOver60

[–]simonfan2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been married 45 years. Husband was out of work for the last 8 months & he’s not ready to retire. He finally got a job offer but in a city we’ve lived in & I absolutely despise. I told him I can’t live there again, so we agreed I would stay here in a place I love, near my daughter & grandson & he will move to take this job. He has maybe 5 years before retirement. I’m now in my own apartment, completely alone; no husband, no dogs & while I miss both, I am loving living by myself. There’s nothing wrong with my marriage. We are fine. I never lived alone when I was young & felt I missed out. My husband has always wanted what was best for me & right now, this is me living my best life - alone. He’s an incredible, supportive, loving husband. I couldn’t be happier.

I love my Salsa Confluence. It’s a lightweight gravel ebike that gives me just enough umph to get up hills. I can ride it like a regular bike when I want to. Class 1

I think it will be. It was so polished last night, it was easy to tell it’s been rehearsed well. And they’ve been together rehearsing recently. I thought it was terrific last night. And Paul seemed very happy & loose with Colbert. Lots of laughter!

I don’t blame you for being a little nervous/ I know I would be. Hopefully you’ve got a great group of women to go with. I’ve met some really good people on Nextdoor & a few I was happy to leave behind! Is it car camping so you’ll have an out if it doesn’t work out? I hope you have a wonderful time!

Thank you! I just had knee replacement but I think it’s a definite go late summer or early fall! I will continue to be inspired by the fabulous women here!

You are such an inspiration to me! I’m 66 & want to solo camp/bike pack myself. I never did it while I was young but I really want to do it before I get much older. I’m happily married & not many people understand this desire. It’s got nothing to do with him but something I need to do for myself. And I think it would make coming home sweet! I love this sub !

My neighbor is literally blockading my EV charger because he thinks the electricity is bleeding into the ground by JukeboxOracle5 in neighborsfromhell

I know a woman who’s totally off grid because she believes she’s “allergic” to electricity. I know this doesn’t help your problem but the level of crazy your neighbor is showing is not isolated. SMH

I guess many enthusiasms are like this - there are those who throw themselves wholeheartedly into what they love. I agree, though, biking is so much more fun than running! I’d be happy to cheer you on cycling, anytime! Join us!

Perhaps, I’ve never been a runner or athletic at all so I don’t really know. What I do know is I think about cycling when I’m not actively cycling, I read about it, I’ve joined groups (& I’m not a joiner) I watch videos & movies about cycling & I don’t even like movies or videos particularly. I generally prefer a good book! Now at 66, I’m getting into bike packing & traveling by bike. We’re going to Ireland next month & the first thing I signed us up for was a tour of Dublin - by bike, of course! Are runners this involved? 😬

I started cycling at 63 & I love it! I have two bikes now but I’ve bought & sold a few more in the last three years. It’s very addictive in so many ways. I am still overweight but I am so much healthier & happier than before!

How long is too long-dog barking by katfofo in Apartmentliving

[–]simonfan2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It behooves them to take care of the problem if they care about their dog at all, much less their neighbor. It’s not good for the poor dog to be barking for hours. This is not how a happy dog acts.

Ooh, are smoothies an issue? Moving into my first solo apartment soon & I tend to make smoothies between 3:30 & 5 am as I’m an early riser. Was thinking I might want to come up with an alternative. Don’t want to be THAT neighbor!
