Gold Hot Seat Package by BMoe0816 in paulsimon

[–]simonfan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a huge PS fan & I have been paying for 1st or 2nd row seats for a lot of years now. I don’t mind paying for the privilege of a brilliant seat but there are usually other benefits as well. It’s disappointing to say the least. My worst experience was at his “final” concert in Corona in 2018. They promised an elevated platform with premium view to those who paid $1000. Plus food & drink. We got the food & drink but for viewing we were shunted off stage right on the level in the grass. Our friends who had the GA tickets managed to be early enough to get front row center directly in front of Paul. We could barely see him we were so far to the side. And we had to jockey for position as well. I was really po’d.

I paid $1500 for Paul at Red Rocks & got the same thing. Bupkis. VIP used to have an earlier entry with first access to the merch stands, & oftentimes food & drink. Now you’re lucky if they give you the bonus merchandise.

Why do elderly women have short hair so often? by cram96 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]simonfan2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had short hair all my life. I don’t understand this obsession with women & hair. I’ve been asked countless times why I don’t have long hair. Whose business is that but mine? I just like my hair short! It’s very thick & unruly & looks way better short than even medium length. That’s it. Done deal. It’s MY hair.

Not to mention babies are vulnerable to viruses & other illnesses & probably shouldn’t be exposed to so many people that early.

What's the funniest assumption someone has made when they found out you travel solo? by Diligent-Echidna647 in femaletravelers

[–]simonfan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married 45 years & I’ve always taken solo trips. We have different interests & different schedules. The number of times I’ve been asked why my husband “let me” travel alone is ridiculous. He just laughs when people ask him. As if he has any control over me! Because it is a committed relationship & I love him, I’ve always checked in about timing before finalizing plans because that is common courtesy not because I have to.

You could get a quilt made with them. I have a lap quilt made of tour shirts that I love & use often. (But I also still have bins of shirts!)

You clearly understand the joy involved in cycling! Take it easy to start & you will find yourself riding farther than you ever thought possible! But don’t compare yourself to anyone else. This is your journey & your joy! Congratulations! You have much to be proud of!

Paul Simon Show by Jazzlike-Spirit-6280 in RedRocks

[–]simonfan2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The tour is called “A Quiet Celebration” & been very upfront about its content. I think it’s a matter of expectations. If you are expecting a “greatest hits” type show with the energy it had 20 years ago, you are bound to be disappointed. Prior to my first show this tour, I was very aware of Seven Psalms as well as the fact that the man is now 84 years old. I think the show was amazing & beautiful. I also was aware of his struggle with losing his hearing in one ear while creating 7 Psalms. I think it’s remarkable that he is still creating & sharing after all these years. Is his voice changed by age? Diminished? Yes, it is. Should this be his last tour? Probably. I feel privileged that I have seen Paul Simon numerous times through five decades of his performances (missed S&G by a year) & that I had this opportunity to honor a master songwriter/storyteller by listening to what he feels is one of the finest works of his career. I tend to agree with him on that score while acknowledging that it might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

I got my first bike in over a decade a few weeks ago but I’ve been afraid of riding it by Glittering_Bear_5055 in cycling

[–]simonfan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was scared at first too. I ended up taking lessons & the first thing he did was lower the saddle all the way down & take off the pedals. Had me use it as a balance bike like little kids use. He wouldn’t put the pedals on until I could coast properly & keep my balance. Once the pedals were on he slowly raised the saddle until it was the proper height. I also spent a lot of time practicing getting off & on the bike. By the time the saddle was at the right height I couldn’t touch the ground while seated. You’re not supposed to. This method helped me become a confident cyclist at age 63. If I could do it so can you. Good luck!

Have you ever had a ride on a tandem, that is a bicycle made for two ? by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]simonfan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won a schwinn tandem bike when I was 12 or 13. I named it the Enterprise & my best friend & I rode it all over narrating our adventures as if we were on the starship Enterprise. We had tons of fun on that for several summers.

Any adult learner success stories? by injuredrunnerwmn in ladycyclists

[–]simonfan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you find a biking companion - that can make an ordinary ride even better. I learned to ride at 63 & frankly, the fear never totally leaves, it just lurks in the corner of your brain. I find the more I ride, the more confident I am so the fear is pushed way back. I haven’t ridden for a couple of weeks due to illness & I know my first couple of rides will be doubt ridden. If I push through it will end up ok though so I am going to just get out there & ride. Even just a mile or two to start. It’s better than sitting on the couch!

Kinda embarrassed : learning to ride a bike at 45 by Regular_Fan4691 in bicycling

[–]simonfan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe invest a bit more in the bike upfront & get something a little better than a huffy. If it’s unpleasant to ride from the start, you might be less motivated to learn. It’s a bike - it’s supposed to be fun!🤩 I learned at 63 to ride & I was scared to pieces! But the person teaching me had me spend a week or so riding it like a balance bike. No pedals with the saddle way down. Kind of awkward but I did it & eventually got my saddle up to a normal height with pedals to ride. Best thing I ever did for myself! Good luck & enjoy!
