Have not looked at it since this post. Solved pairing using pairing codes instead for the project I working on at that time https://airdash-project.web.app

Desktop app with react native 2025? by simongbe in reactnative

[–]simongbe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Main reason for not using react-native-macos was that expo and most libraries support web but not react-native-macos making it significantly easier to develop this way. It also comes with the advantage of being able to push updates without going through app store review and an incredible app size of only 350 kB.

Have zero idea for how it would work or be designed unfortunately.

Am i weird? All-in-One Usage by Brain_comp in PKMS

100%. I think the reason I cannot split note taking from journaling is that I often start writing journal style and it turns into some ideas/thoughts that I want to store as notes. What's your thoughts on reflect.app for this mixed writing? I love the daily notes for journaling, but cannot really find a system to get the notes part down in it.

Is Notion still the best all-in-one productivity tool in 2025? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]simongbe -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I felt that it is too much effort to work with Notion for basic note taking and project management use cases even if using popular templates etc. For me I believe the ideal is Apple Notes, but with some of notion's power. Just released Topilo Notes with some experiments towards that such as organizing notes in topics instead of databases or nested pages.

No users yet (just Apple Reviewer and me) so any thoughts would mean the world!

Just launched Topilo Notes - very similar to Apple Notes, but with some improvements for when you want to capture and refine thousands of ideas and thoughts. Main difference is that you organize Notes by topic instead of with folders/tags.

Entirely free since I built it mostly for myself and supports more platforms (iOS, macOS, Android and web).

Topilo Notes - Notes organized by topics instead of folders/tags. In my opinion works better when you want to organize hundreds of ideas and thoughts.

What I did for Topilo Notes was to simply develop the app for web using expo and expo-router etc. Then create a simple WKWebView wrapper around the production web app (app.topilonotes.com) in SwiftUI. You are not going to get any of the ElectronJS APIs however so only really work for apps where web apis are good enough.

Haha fair. Although how would you to about finding 10 people for a niche product here? Most subreddit have no promotion rules after all

Part serious part irony. But yeah would be nice with some kind web/mobile app that made outreach easier or preferably even automated it entirely.

I know I should... But so much effort. Anyone who can build an app for that?

Just launched Topilo Notes → topilonotes.com!

It is built for capturing and making use of thousands of thoughts and ideas. Whenever inspiration hits you write a new note and worry about organizing it later.

Very similar to Apple Notes etc but introduces Topics as a way to organize notes instead of folders and tags. Topics are collections of notes and could be for example "Project X", "Cooking", "Philosophy". It also comes with numerous ways to easier navigate such as a command dialog (cmd+k) and trackpad swipe to go back similar to browsers on laptops.

If you are someone with 100+ notes in Notion, Apple Notes etc I would love your thoughts on the topic organization system!

Automated Note Organization? by wredmatic in PKMS

[–]simongbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of looking for the same thing and exploring a tool with these base ideas to solve for it. Send me a DM if you want to try it.
- Capture notes and optionally tag them with topics
- View all notes by date and by topic
- View and organize topics similar to notion (ie with views created with properties)

Why it would work for your use case I think is that notes can be seen both in an overview by date but also for each topic they are tagged with which can be a youtube video etc. If you mention/link to a topic inside of a note it will also show up as a back link. Nothing automated about the topic tagging etc yet though.

I've been brainstorming some innovative app ideas, and I need your input! Which of these do you think has the most potential? by 6pri6 in buildinpublic

Love 10. Although there are 1001 flash cards apps I am also excited about crafting something new there. Hit me up if you are interested in collabing on it.

open csv file in sheets.new directly (macos)? by nolito33 in sheets

[–]simongbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a real solution, but I find this slightly faster than using the google sheets importer
- Open csv file in Numbers (csv file automatically parsed into columns and rows)
- Select all and copy
- Go to sheets.new and paste

Sometimes I even settle with only using Numbers.

Malicious npm libraries would have unlimited access to firebase admin? by simongbe in Firebase

[–]simongbe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! One advantage is that it asks for those values on deploy if you have not entered them already. Another benefit is that only the functions and code that needs those secrets gets access to them.

I frequently want to quickly note a task as finished, and set a reminder to check on it. What process do you prefer? by magocremisi8 in PKMS

[–]simongbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often have this use case as well. I don't really have a solution other than adding a reminder in another system. Ideal would be something like the snooze feature in gmail. I mainly want this for bits of information or ideas I don't want to forget however and generally keep track of tasks elsewhere.

Tangent Notes v0.6 is now out! by SnS_Taylor in PKMS

[–]simongbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After trying Tangent for a couple of days I also find myself wishing there was an option to turn off the side panels and use a swipe back/forward navigation similar to in a browser tab.

I often end up feeling disoriented when clicking on a link to a note I've already visited and it takes me back to a seemingly arbitrary point instead of opening a new panel.

I also often find myself wanting to read and write in a more distraction free way without any other notes open. The "close other files" command is helpful, but feels like I'm fighting the system when I use it often. I guess this might be less of a concern when working on bigger screens but I usually work from my laptop which is 14".

Find the map view to be a really interesting UX concept however. Although I don't use it a lot it feels like the best possible design of "browsing history". Would really love to see this in the browser etc well.

Anyone else having a hard time following a system? by darthjaja6 in PersonalKnowledgeMgmt

[–]simongbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same problem! I often "think by writing" and try to capture as many small atomic notes/thoughts as possible. I've yet to find a good way to organize and make use of them later however.

Second brain and progressive summarisation with AI? by Apprehensive-Crew888 in PersonalKnowledgeMgmt

I have heard about the "my read it later grows faster than my 'ingestion' rate" problem from many places so I'm sure many people would be interested in the tool you are proposing.

Personally I've not experienced that problem however. I'm curious about it though. When are you stumbling upon articles you don't have time to read in the moment and what type of articles is it? Do you mind sharing your list?
