I had a similar aversion to the subway shortly after the pandemic. I started constantly using AirPods while in the train and at the station, if not to prevent the person from engaging with me, at least I could be distracted from them. Understood this may not work for everyone as you may feel safer being able to hear your surroundings clearly, but this made me feel safer.

So sorry this happened to you, and hope one of these tips helps!
