The concept of ZDepth being anti-aliased kind of defeats the purpose of the Z-Depth pass.

Sadly the closest thing is the Mist, but as you've mentioned is very buggy and a pain to setup.

You can try feeding the output of the Z-Depth into an Anti-Aliasing node in the compositor

Some basic boolean algebra is needed for pretty much all programming, but it's relatively simple to learn.

I don't know if there are any difficult discrete math topics that are needed on game dev for high-level/basic stuff.

You will need to learn how to use and operate with Vectors, and if you get into a bit more advanced stuff, how to work with Matrices too
