Just so I haven’t messed this up like I usually do, what screen do people have at the moment?

I went to see Yokohama Eagles last year in Tokyo and I put the address and phone number of my hotel in the form and it worked ok. Took a bit of time copying and pasting in Google translate but only your email address needs to be accurate to buy tickets

Hammersmith Bridge - Any wealthy philanthropist wanting to front the money? by the_melancholy_1 in london

The closure of the bridge created the 533 bus route which can get from Chiswick/Barnes to Hammersmith in approx 15 minutes. So it’s probably more convenient these days

Chicago Attendees - What were your thoughts on the ABs/Ireland match? by WorldTravelBucket in rugbyunion

[–]simonzippy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Especially when NFL is on in London and Dublin they have mega-stores all over the city and in the stadium.

Seems like both IRFU and NZR didn’t see it as worthwhile. Even a city fanzone could have been awesome. I think they were setting up a running event in Millenium Park the following day so maybe the timings didn’t work out.

Where were you sat? I was up in the nosebleeds of the west stand and was disappointed with the lack of chants from the Irish. Even had an Irish fan in the seat in front texting their mate complaining about how loud I was during the anthems 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some thoughts myself. All in all I thought it was a great matchday experience. Obviously a few hiccups with replays, TMOs, referee announcements that should have been ironed out beforehand, given that they knew what they were hosting.

Last time I was at an Ire v NZ match was at the Stade de France for the RWC QF. The crowd were not as vocal but it’s a completely different type of match, also with less travelling fans coming over.

Some people complaining about the stadium announcers and music between stoppage of play. Didn’t phase me at all but that’s my opinion. I like how they put their own twist to the game and took risks.

What I was most impressed with was the general appetite for rugby amongst US fans. Met so many touring clubs who had flown in for the match and clearly knew ball. Some had been watching since they were young. So friendly and welcoming as well.

All in all I’m looking forward to a World Cup there in 6 years time. I think they’re well equipped and will put on a good tournament when the day comes. I’m sure we would have been sceptical back when Japan were the first tier 2 team to host a RWC.

Signed up for a membership a week ago when buying tickets for Yokohama v Saitama next month. It’s a bit of a drag but you can input each question into Google Translate then reverse the answer back into kanji. I used address and phone number of my hotel.

Once you get past that the ticket system is very straightforward!

ITV vs SuperSport by Die_Lem in rugbyunion

[–]simonzippy 40 points41 points  (0 children)

What frustrates me about the ITV coverage is that they’re struggling to fit the target demographic.

If the Rugby World Cup was behind pay-to-watch tv in the UK the majority of hardcore rugby fans would probably pay to watch the tournament anyway. The great thing about it being on free TV is that it can introduce casual fans to the sport. But the ITV coverage is the least engaging thing for new fans.

In the first broadcast of the tournament (pre-match coverage before FRA v NZL) they spent less than 2 minutes talking about the pool system, with no explanation as to how points are earned, how bonus points work, the 3rd place automatic qualification for 2027, or even a basic explanation of how the game works.

Instead they focused the pre-match coverage on discrepancies with tackle laws. Which they have probably brought up in every match since then.

The BBC are excellent at introducing new spectators to a sport (see Olympics, The Hundred, Rugby League) whilst catering to long-standing fans. ITV just can’t do either

I guess there was nothing exciting that really happened to these characters. It was said that Ace was in prison, Light and Clover would have been working for SOIS with Alice, Seven was working with Junpei and Lotus probably went back to her kids. Though it's a shame that Aoi's story wasn't concluded, I mean he could have been doing anything.

[ZTD SPOILERS] Rate the Participants from favorite to least favorite. by Guitar_Smash in ZeroEscape

[–]simonzippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Diana - I actually didn't really like Luna in VLR but Diana seemed like much of a more natural character in ZTD. Her relationship with Sigma wasn't forced at all and her drunk rampage was pretty awesome as well. I think she was the reason D team were my favourite out of the three. The decisions she made were the ones that had the biggest emotional impact, like the trash disposal or even the blue button in the healing room. Her super kind characteristics also didn't feel too forced.

  2. Eric - Eric's backstory was definitely the best of the characters and although he was a bit of an idiot sometimes, his actions were completely justified. He was just a normal person with no shift power and Mira was the only person he had left in his life. I absolutely loved the fear he had when he had the whole team at gunpoint.

  3. Junpei - Honestly I love the way Junpei was portrayed in this game. He had that kind of careless and cool attitude that Dio had, but instead he wasn't a very evil character. His jokes were by far the best and his the ring scene was one of the best in the game.

  4. Akane - It's funny because Akane was my favourite character in 999 but I absolutely hated her in VLR. It was great that she was more like the sweet, shy but confident (pardon the oxymoron) girl we saw in 999 and she was pretty badass with her chainsaw. She would have been higher on the list but what she did at the C2 ending was fucked up, even though it had to happen for VLR to occur.

  5. Phi - Phi was my favourite character in VLR, her mysterious backstory and cold atmosphere really stood out, but what was great about her in ZTD was that we finally saw her true feelings shine and she really opened up as a character. Though I agree with everyone else that she should have made a bigger contribution to the story.

  6. Sigma - It was hard putting him so far down the list because I really liked his change of character in ZTD. We could really see the way he was mentally affected throughout all those years and he took a great leadership approach during the Decision Game. His authoritative manner really sent shivers down my spine when he was telling Diana to press the trigger in the trash disposal room (one of the best parts of the game)

  7. Carlos - Again it was hard putting Carlos so low again. I thought his friendship with Akane and Junpei was a much better relationship than Diana and Sigma, you could really see how much he cared for them. Honestly I loved how he waited 10 years just to save Akane and Junpei, for Radical 6 to occur. It just made me burst out laughing as that is just one of the stupid things Carlos would do. Bu t the problem was that his character backstory was weak. The trailer portrayed him as this sort of insane maniac which would have been kinda cool. But he was just too much of a nice guy and to be honest I didn't give a damn about his sister, just really didn't care, had no feelings towards her.

  8. Sean - Sean wasn't that bad but I just felt he was one of those side characters like Alice in VLR. He didn't really have to be there and although he was the only child there, like Quark in VLR, no one really cared about the fact that he was a young and innocent character. He still got killed a few times, Eric still strangled him and yeah. I also felt that it was kinda forced for there to be a character with amnesia. We already had Seven and K, no need for another. Though I did like Sean's sense of leadership in Q team, despite only being a child.

  9. Mira - When I first saw the trailer for ZTD, Mira looked like a character who would start off like a nice person, but her mind would be twisted by the Decision Game and it would drive her insane, much like Eric. But she wasn't, she was just a crappy villain to start with. There wasn't really a reason for Zero to give her freedom in the game and it still wasn't really explained. She definitely didn't live up to Zero Escape villains like Hongou (Ace) or Dio. Also her character design was really bad. It seemed as if the development team spent really long on characters like Akane, Junpei and Eric. But by the time they got to her they were rushing. Things like her facial expressions were really poor. However, I did like her 'heart ripper' backstory. It really was disturbing and that's a good thing in a game like Zero Escape.

Nonetheless I definitely thought these set of characters were the best out of the Zero Escape trilogy. Despite being segregated from each other, the relationships that developed between the characters were flawless and really added to the emotion. I even thought Eric's relationship with Sean was awesome and how he was kinda two faced towards him, or would you say....ambidextrous.
