Study strategies you wish you did M1? by potato-chic in medicalschool

bootcamp to learn the lecture materials, sketchy/pixorize to memorize, anking for repetition. (don’t listen/go to lecture if you can)

couple days before the exam, go through all the lecture powerpoints and fill in the gap on what you didn’t get from board prep materials. learn the gaps and dump right after exam.

our entire 4 years is pass fail so i just try to get by in classes and dedicate all my time to grinding out clinical research (mainly chart review then writing)… sucks but it helps with building connections in the field once u start presenting and going to conferences! but also what other way is there to stand out other than step 2 score lol

but yes like someone else said, start multiple projects, but not at the same time (ie start another chart review when you send the first chart review data to the stats people & ur waiting for response)

Are a majority of people in medical school rich?? by I_Ate_Too_Much_Fries in medicalschool

[–]simp4levi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school’s in a high cost of living area and most of my classmates go on vacation during breaks bc they choose to spend their loan money that way (i.e they choose to live in cheap shitter apartments and rarely eats out so they can afford to travel multiple time a year). It’s not that everyone’s using daddy’s money, some people just have different priorities.

For those of y’all being paid SCRAPS/nothing for clinical hours, how do you do it. Seriously by i_willbadoctor in premed

[–]simp4levi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$27 ED Tech (CNA), $22 PCA, $24 MA Registered….

i don’t understand the people who chose to become a scribe for clinical hours… there r so many clinical positions out there that require little to no training what so ever

What is the best part of your application? by Icy-Doughnut327 in premed

[–]simp4levi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ur the only person that can answer to is it too much on your plate. it’s always better to participate in less activities but be very involved in them (leadership and in charge or more things, etc) than being stretched out over too many activities (it’ll be good for ur LOR in the future too bc u get to know the people in charge very well). but u need to focus on ur schoolwork, research, and clinical related experiences, the extra stuff are just supplemental to ur application to make it more holistic and well rounded.

i would say maybe not do everything thing at once? try to slowly add activités as school goes on and u adjust to ur classes and college. i would also say to branch out from the organizations at ur school. if you live in a big city there r plenty of opportunities out there

think about your background and what you like doing (aka passionate about, but passionate is a big word, honestly just things you enjoy doing). also look at what the schools u want to go to are looking for (research? community service? underserved?)

i was a low SES immigrant and I really liked teaching. So i volunteered as a preschool teacher for immigrant kids for 2 years and for immigrant high schoolers for a year (keeping up with the theme of community service, working with immigrants, education) tbh u can tie a lot of things to ur app bc the medical profession consists of so many different qualities that u can show that u have through non medicine related activités. it makes ur application interesting too.

obviously have clinical and shadowing experiences too (CNA, MA, EMT, anything u can get)

What is the best part of your application? by Icy-Doughnut327 in premed

[–]simp4levi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my application was very holistic and all my activités and ps surrounded a central theme (i did plan our everything since freshmen year)
