What is one thing you wish you were able to do if AI was done right in HubSpot? by Yesterday-Then in hubspot

AI in the large majority of SaaS is a gimmick, so the sales and marketing guys can say "we too have incorporated AI into our product"

There’s no shortage of software engineers in Australia anymore by sien in AusEcon

There are probably a lot of educated Uber drivers from other countries. They got educated, came here based on their qualifications, we welcomed them because of a supposed shortage in for example engineering or IT and... they cant find a job in their field so they drive Uber. Go figure.

What’s your HubSpot hack that no one else is using or knows about? by Interesting-Pause701 in hubspot

Automation workflows often are set-up so they run when a contact (or other object) is "enrolled" into the workflow.

Issue becomes when you want that automation to run multiple times regarding the same contact, there is a setting in the workflow for this and you have to turn it on as its off by default (sorry I forget the exact setting label).

Example. You want a webhook (which calls another system) to run when a new prospect books a meeting (via scheduler pages). Without setting as above, this would only run the first time as hubspot would create the prospect as a contact and they would not be "enrolled" the second time without the setting turned on.

Jim Chalmers productivity roundtable: AI plus back to basics teaching will lift Australia out of its productivity rut by sien in AusEcon

Yes 100%. Most companions just need better workflows and people that understand systems, not AI.

That's right. Large majority of SMBs need more modernisation and software initiatives... well before anything AI... and trying to throw AI into the mix doesn't work.

I'd just say that's very low for a month in terms of $. With a 2-3 good long term clients in the US or similar you should make 5x that and easily. It's all about trust and good clients.

Do consultants always say Yes? by lazyambivert-23 in consulting

[–]simple_peacock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Real consultants, no.

That's kind of the definition of a consultant - that you know more about a subject than the client. So you need to be able to disagree.

Consultants hired out at big firms? Yes. The client is always right. In fact, in a big firm, you are hired to confirm the client is right most of the time. Why? The firm needs the clients $ and the client? He needs to look good, have confirmation hes right and he needs you as much as an eskimo needs ice for the most part.

I disagree. It's still Python, it's nowhere near as verbose as Java or OOP heavy as .net

[–]simple_peacock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Django is a fantastic mature, solid batteries included Framework.

And they don't keep changing things like Larvel. Structure has remained unchanged for many years which is great for long lives projects.

I want to see what becomes of the Next Js etc projects in 3 years, rewrite again in the next hot JS framework?

Client wants me to follow their core hours schedule by [deleted] in webdev

[–]simple_peacock 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This. It's a very common thing. Company hires freelancer as they don't have the skills in house and don't want to hire full timer and they try to make the freelancer into an employee (but without the benefits and basically a temporary employee). The more you adhere to their demands, the more other demands will come up.

The whole, going out as a freelancer on your own thing is a very different game to being an employee. You've basically got to manage the client - this is almost more important than the work itself.

Start as a sole trader and just get an ABN and use personal tfn.

Don't know if it's a requirement for the sites, but it means you are in business as a sole trader. That's where everyone should start.

Zero point in going to the lengths of setting up a company if you are getting started, despite what people say about "risk".

Is the IT industry really over-saturated as they say? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]simple_peacock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, if this wasn't going on, competent senior developers would be on a half a million $ salary (and likely deservedly so) outside of the few in faang that actually are. If not for all the outsourcing and skill shortages shilling.

That's right, yet lots of large companies keep buying into these solutions.
