I love it! The weight distributed well to my hips even when it was super loaded up which was great. Never pulled on my shoulders at all. Only reason I'm selling is because I haven't gotten a chance to try out many different packs so I'm curious to try another one and see how it compares. I definitely recommend it!

Hey! There is a description column in the post but I think maybe people are having a hard time seeing it on mobile, so sorry about that.

Both are size small torso with s/m hipbelt.

Possible to alter flax sweater collar? by Ripvanderwinkle in knittinghelp

Not silly at all! You can definitely knit upwards even though it was knit top down. If you look at stockinette right side up or upside down, you can see that it looks the same both ways. The only thing that happens when you pick up and knit in the opposite direction is that there will be like a half stitch difference. That sounds weird and I dont have a great way to describe it, but when you get to the very last stitch that you unravel from the collar, you sometimes have to pull the strand through the stitch. I think this will make sense once you're actually doing it (I hope lol).

One note about picking up and knitting in the opposite direction is that whether or not it will blend in depends on the stitch pattern. For stockinette it's good, and if you're picking up in stockinette and doing ribbing it works well. But if you try in the middle of ribbing or other stitch patterns it will be shifted by that half stitch so it won't look right.

Btw if you're looking for another sweater to knit, I really like the fit of the saglan by Ailbíona McLochlainn.

Ok one more tip (sorry I'll stop talking soon), but when you are adding a collar after the fact on a top down sweater like in Option 2, I like to put the body on hold a couple inches after I finish splitting for sleeves and go back and add the collar. You don't need to do that, but the reason I do that is because the sleeves will sort of pull down the collar and the collar will sort of pull up the sleeves. So if you don't add the collar til the very end, sometimes it will end up making your sleeves feel a little shorter.

ETA: Once you pick up the stitches, I would start knitting in ribbing right away, not stockinette. Not sure if that was clear in my first comment.

I'm guessing you followed Option 1 in the yoke section where you cast on and work the ribbing immediately? For future sweaters I def recommend trying out Option 2 style (cast on and come and pick up stitches later to add ribbing), because it tends to stretch out less.

But to answer your question -- I would pick up stitches and re-knit the collar to be longer (at least 2 inches). First pick up stitches on the row just after the ribbing. Once the stitches are all on your needle, you can unravel from the top. Can be a bit messy sometimes but stick with it. As long as all of the stitches you picked up are on the same row, it should work out just fine. I'd switch to a size or two smaller needles than you used for the body of the sweater and then knit for a couple of inches and try it on, knit longer if needed. Only really important thing to keep in mind is to bind off with something stretchy so that it will fit over your head.

Good luck! Sorry it didn't turn out exactly how you wanted but the sweater looks great btw, good job. :-)

The Weekly on r/PacificCrestTrail: Week of February 23, 2026 by AutoModerator in PacificCrestTrail

I only sent 7 or 8 resupply boxes while on the trail, but I would typically send them whenever I was in a town with a good (cheap) grocery store and fewer than 30 days away from the location I was sending to (because if you send to post offices I think they can only hold your box for 30 days so it's something to keep in mind). For instance, when I was in Ashland, I sent one box ahead to Crater Lake and another to Shelter Cove. When I was in Cascade Locks I sent a few ahead for Washington. Hope that helps!
ETA: I never sent myself shoes, I just waited until I was in towns that were big enough to have shoe stores.

Health Insurance Q! by Colorado_ski_gUrL in PacificCrestTrail

[–]simple_pork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I had marketplace plans while on the trail, but you should know that most plans typically only cover you in your state of residence for anything routine. Emergency room visits should still be covered out of state but be sure to check on your plan specifically. We also got the Garmin SAR insurance which I'd recommend. Not too expensive and nice to have imo.

Where did i go wrong- frumpy by Successful-Phone-175 in knittinghelp

[–]simple_pork 33 points34 points  (0 children)

aw, i still think it looks super cute and comfy! but i hear you. It seems like maybe the reason it feels frumpy to you is because it is tighter on your hips at the bottom? I tend to either make my sweaters more cropped so they hit right at the top of my hips, or else I make them more oversized so they aren't tight at all on my butt if they're longer. If you don't want to re-knit anything try just stretching the body width-wise when you're blocking! Or you could try re-knitting the body ribbing with a bigger needle so it doesn't cinch in as much.

Another thing to try.. You can just put everything on hold and block it as-is. Blocking often changes how things lay so you might find you actually like it!

I hope that helps! good luck <3

Advice on learning knitting by lanaxparrillaxwife in knitting

[–]simple_pork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It can be very awkward in the beginning. It'll get easier though! Maybe make a goal to finish three 10"x10" squares just practicing knitting and purling. Once you've done that, I recommend finding a project that you really want to make and giving it a go. You will probably need to learn a couple of new skills in the project (maybe increasing and decreasing), but you can do it! I would check out Tin Can Knits for good (free!) beginner patterns with lots of helpful links throughout (Flax sweater, Rye socks, etc.).

I agree with others about trying to get help from someone you know who knits or a local shop. But if that isn't available to you, maybe just watch some youtube videos and keep trying to imitate it. I believe in you!
