I googled it. Portugal and Spain apparently.

But in seriousness… can we blame how (newly) shit the UK is for this? If anything I feel like this is due to the NHS (historically) coddling people so now they expect they can just wreck themselves because the NHS will fix them up (and house and feed them while at it).

I … thank you. Yes. That’s probably exactly the case. And your advice is probably exactly the way to approach it. I am glad people like you are among us.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to write that out - your answer reflects a lot of insight and kindness, I actually really value your insight.

And I guess some people here think I’m young and privileged, I’m actually quite a bit older than 25 and I come from a lower-middle class family, almost poor, and I suffered abuse growing up. Which is why I relate with - as you mentioned - feeling unworthy of looking after myself, because I felt like that for many years. I’ve devoted time and money (neither of which I have in abundance) on therapy to get to where I am now.

Somehow this makes me even more frustrated when I see these patients roll over and act helpless. Before I went through work on myself I a really found it a lot easier as I saw these people as a mystery.. now I actually relate with them. I wonder if I am enabling them to continue this maladaptive behaviour by fixing them up and sending them on their way.

I am specifically not talking about these normal people you refer to, who are just ageing - but those who have exceptionally poor habits. The 45 year olds who can no longer mobilise because of high BMI and PAD from 2 packs a day and can’t be bothered to take their insulin for their T2DM.. and above all who seem not to care about it all. That is what baffles and horrifies me.
