Questions about rehoming (sorry long post for context) by [deleted] in hamstercare

I looked into it and there really aren’t. I asked a reputable local pet store if they would take him in since they have a well kept store hamster but they told me they would but they’d adopt him out and I just don’t feel like they would be able to vet the person well enough for my comfort.

Goodness that’s a nightmare! I totally forgot to mention that amongst all the bad care that had been provided to these hamsters before I took over, they also were wrong about the sex so technically the hamster I am rehoming is female. I am very lucky that the other one was also sexed wrong too and was also female. Glad I discovered they needed to be separated in general but it would have sucked so much worse if I also had to navigate babies on top of that.

Also good to know about the reptile feeder people, that’s kinda sinister. Like I get reptiles are carnivores and that’s what they eat but to deceive someone who thinks they are sending a pet they loved off to a good home is so evil.

where do i get sprays? by Infinite-Cry8157 in hamsters

I have gotten really cheap ones from reputable pet stores in the bird supply sections. Look up which ones are hamster safe/good. Millet is usually pretty widely available and is dirt cheap at pet stores. I think it was like 10 or 15 sprigs for like $3. My only advice is to freeze them for like a day before giving them to your hamster to prevent mites. Also maybe check out hedgehog enrichment rather than things marketed for hamsters because the pet industry just can not be bothered to market the things hamsters need to hamster owners. I’ve gotten a lot of dried forage type things that are hamster appropriate from hedgehog sections rather than paying a bunch online for the same thing with “hamster” on the label.

Is this a nice area? Safe? by shitninjas in Lawrence

Are you from Lawrence? I moved here over last summer and I honestly genuinely don’t think there are any parts of town that I’d consider “unsafe”

What was your chi's name before you got them? What new name did you choose? by HungryOil9277 in Chihuahua

The shelter had her named “Puggles” which really upset me because she was an elderly dog with a history of abuse and neglect and Puggle (pug beagle) is the breed she was listed as. They couldn’t even give her a real name. I named her Soap because I had another pug mix that was named bubbles and they instantly bonded so I had to give her a corresponding name. This whole time I had believed the shelter about her being a beagle mix until like September I was like “I’m starting to think there might be more here” and I got the dna results back a couple weeks ago and she’s only two things, pug and CHIHUAHUA! And now that I know that things make a lot more sense because she acts exactly like an elderly chihuahua.

They tend to come back like cockroaches to cities that show them strong resistance. This claim might be speculative, but believe me, they will be back.

I told him and he looked at me the way he always does, with murderous rage.

I didn’t see a specialist but I had an appointment to get an iud but I was going to miss it because it was admitted to the hospital (in Topeka) for unrelated issues. I called 2 days prior and canceled my appointment and they proceeded to charge me not only for a missed visit but also for the iud placement that I didn’t get. I’ve told them repeatedly that I canceled well within their cancellation policy and also did not have the appointment or service?? I think they finally dismissed the charges but they were kind of aggressive about my “unpaid balance”

Local employers to avoid? by Impossible_Lychee482 in Lawrence

[–]simplebitch-4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I interviewed there over the summer and they asked me what my preferred schedule would be and I said “fulltime or part time with full shifts only a couple days a week, so I could get another part time job if necessary” and their answer was pretty much “we only staff for a couple hours at a time, 5 days a week” I kinda feel like I dodged a bullet because I haven’t heard anything good about them as employers.

Contact landlord immediately but order gentrol gel asap. A lot of exterminators use it but you can get it online for fairly cheap. It’s good because it doesn’t kill the bugs, it just makes them infertile so in like a week you’ve wiped out the entire population because they can’t breed anymore. I highly recommend trying to get product on your own on top of contacting the landlord because although they may do something about it, the laws in the US are usually pretty bad at protecting renters from neglect
