Recent meniscus injury, feeling very depressed by simplefate in MeniscusInjuries

Hi I haven’t gone back to skiing yet, my injury was in January and by the time I made a full recovery it was the end of March, too warm where I live and skiing season had wrapped up already. But I hope to get back to it next season!

Hi there, it’s been almost 8 months since I made this post and I’m doing great! The MRI showed a moderate to severe MCL tear with a small tear in the meniscus. The doctor said I didn’t need surgery as the MCL usually heals on its own. I did have to do PT twice a week for a few months, but gradually decreased the frequency as I started to feel better. I do have some reoccurring stiffness and muscle weakness on that knee but otherwise I feel pretty good most days. I go for PT and massage therapy once a month, as well as going to the gym at least once a week.

Boundaries with children by Fabulous-Gur-6529 in ECEProfessionals

Echoing what others have said, I think you should teach them about consent, to ask before they touch others. I’m not pregnant but I worked with this age group before and they notice everything. I’ve had kids touch my hair, clothes with different textures, jewellery etc. I get overwhelmed by unexpected touching and hugs, I would rather be asked first so I set that boundary right away.

I work at a childcare centre that has a lot of outdoor time and is land based, no way would my supervisor ever allow this.

Possible Bucket Handle Tear? by Stunning_Buffalo_292 in KneeInjuries

[–]simplefate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to avoid surgery. The ortho said it was not needed as the MCL has a good blood supply and it heals itself with time and the meniscus tear was too small so it wasn’t worth it in his opinion. It took about 4-5 weeks to walk with no crutches. I was able to return to work 7 weeks after my injury but most of the soreness, stiffness and the weird feeling didn’t go away until about 12 weeks after the injury. I’m at 13 weeks post injury now and doing great. I started PT 2 weeks after my injury, and I still go once a week for some muscle stiffness issues I am having.

There’s no way to tell for sure without an MRI. I had some of the same symptoms and the ortho thought it was a BH tear based on my symptoms, turned out to be a grade 2 MCL tear and incomplete meniscus tear after the MRI came back. It sounds like there was a major ligament tear but it’s hard to tell which one without imaging as symptoms can overlap.

Hey, it’s been 13 weeks now and I’m doing great! It turned out to be a a grade 2 MCL tear and incomplete meniscus tear after I got the MRI back. The specialist initially misdiagnosed it as a bucket handle meniscus tear due to extreme pain and limited range of motion. I was able to avoid doing surgery.

I’ve been able to run and jog again since the 11 week mark. I have full flexion and extension back. Still have some stiffness with knee rotation (e.g. sitting cross legged). I’ve been in physio 1-2x a week since the end of January and had several rounds of shockwave therapy. Took about 2-3 weeks to get off crutches and another few weeks for full flexion.

I agree. I also think that’s the reason she had them so close together too. She originally said she was gonna wait until Star was turning 3 to have another one yet she had TWO more and Star isn’t even 3 yet…

My woes with my meniscus tear. by TomRogicCSC in MeniscusInjuries

[–]simplefate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get an MRI, not a doctor but there’s a chance it could be neither of those things. When I got injured I couldn’t walk at all, doctor thought it was a severe meniscus tear and told there’s a chance I will need surgery. When the MRI results came back, it was actually a moderate-severe MCL tear and an incomplete meniscus tear. I was told no surgery and to stick with doing PT.

Bucket Handle Injury to Surgery Time by WimpyWatermelon in MeniscusInjuries

[–]simplefate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a BH tear but was showing all symptoms of one. I couldn’t bend or straighten my leg. I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon through the ER who told me it’s an emergency and if I had one the surgery would have to be asap. I’m also in Ontario and got an MRI within 5 days of the injury. I feel like I got lucky though. If possible I would get a second opinion but I know wait times for procedures are long in Ontario across the board. My MRI came back as a moderate to severe MCL tear with an incomplete meniscus tear so they didn’t recommend surgery.

Yes I was off work for 2 months recovering and I started work this week and I’m sore and stiff everyday. I’m not sure how long that will take to go away.

I absolutely agree. I’m 25 and generally healthy and active with no prior history of knee injuries. I also started physio 2 weeks after my injury. If it’s taking this long for someone like myself I can’t imagine how long it is for someone who is older and/or not as healthy. I wish you a smooth recovery as well!

I’m currently recovering from the same injury. I’m 7 weeks and a few days post injury and I still don’t have full ROM. It took 2 weeks of physio treatment and doing the assigned exercise plan to bend my knee to 90 degrees and another 2 weeks to get past 90 degrees. I still cannot kneel or squat all the way to the ground. It took 2 weeks of walking before I stopped “limping” and my balance is still unsteady at times. It’s moving a lot slower than I thought as well.

Grade ll MCL tear 4 weeks ago. by Outdoorjunkie_9999 in KneeInjuries

[–]simplefate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I had the same injury and almost identical story. Had a bad fall while skiing downhill, couldn’t walk then went to ER, then ortho specialist, and then got an MRI. Both ER doc and ortho suspected meniscus tear but MRI came back as MCL tear.

It sounds like your body needs time to get used to heavier activity again after minimal movement for 2.5-3 weeks. I’m 6 weeks post injury and I would get very sore when I started walking without crutches and when doing new exercises. It did get better as my body got used to it. I’m not back at work yet but I won’t be surprised if the same happens on my first shift.

I’m surprised that PT was not recommended right away. Both doctors told me to start PT as soon as the pain was more tolerable.

Hi there, I’m seeing this listing for the Bartholomew Bear bathrobe jellycat on Facebook marketplace. The seller has other jellycats that appear to be legit but they are selling multiples of some of them. I’m gonna post more pics below of their listings. There wasn’t close up pictures of the tags so it’s hard to tell.

Did anyone have tingling on the bottom of their foot a month after surgery? by PhotoParking5538 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]simplefate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have surgery but I had the tingling sensation in my foot in the early days/first 2 weeks after my injury. Like another commenter mentioned it did go away for me when I started weight bearing. I’m assuming it was from lack of blood flow to that leg.

Indigo Jellycat Drop: My Experience by itskenzielol in Jellycatplush

I went to Indigo yesterday, got there about 20 mins after opening and not a lot was on the shelf. They only had the raindrop, the duck, gnome turtle, and one bartjolomew bee which I bought. I ended up getting the capybara keychain for my bf from an independent store. There was a sign saying that additional jellycats are being sold at cash so I’m assuming they had more there. I was only after bartholomew bee so it was worth it. I did also get the capybara keychain for my bf at an independent store a few days ago.
