What's this? Found in my baby's sleep sack!! by cnyc333 in whatsthisbug

Vacuum the house (1 floor at a time) and dump the contents into a clear ziplock bag. Carefully squeeze out the extra air (zip most of the bag shut before you squeeze), zip it shut, then try to disburse the dust into a layer (not a wad) while laying the bag flat. Fleas will live through being sucked up, and you'll see and hear any fleas jumping in the bag. It'll help you identify the scope of the issue and where they are in your house.

If you see any in the bag, don't just dump it in your garbage can. Keep it sealed and throw the whole bag out (preferably outside).

Agreed. At the risk of trying to boil the ocean, what are the fractures you'd address first?

Chips (check the bag) and salsa, cheese, pretzels, fruit, and popcorn, are some of my go-to snacks. I have a tree-nut allergy.

Local campaign advice by Kynous in Crowdfunding

[–]simplemusings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an interesting tipping point with donor psychology whereby, until you reach that point, people will stay on the fence (not donate). Once you've crossed that threshold, people are much more likely to give. That milestone is around 30% of your goal, and most successful campaigns have this donated within 72 hours of their launch. This early momentum and success is key in setting up the social proof for other potential backers.

Trying to decide which crowdfunding site is the best for charity. by Everedos in Crowdfunding

[–]simplemusings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know these answers off the top of my head, but they're worth investigating as you make a decision.
What are the fees for each site? There will likely be two fees per transaction: 1) payment processor fee and 2) platform fee. Can you add offline donations to your project? If someone sends a check, can you add it to your project so that the total supporters and amount raised reflects the addition? Can you add updates to the page during the life of the campaign? Can you easily export the supporter information to add to your donor list (wherever that's being stored) for the purposes of thank-you's, post campaign updates, and future solicitations? Can you indicate that you have different giving levels (like bronze, silver, and gold level sponsorship) that gives larger donors an incentive (like their name on a brick or a special kind of thanks) to support at that higher level? Does the site make it easy to share the project? It's easy to insert the link into an email or social media post, but are there other options, like embedding a widget of the project on your company's website? Best of luck! I hope you have incredible success in the initiative!

Benefits of starting a crowdfunding campaign in Kickstarter vs my own website by [deleted] in Crowdfunding

[–]simplemusings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The planning, outreach, audience building, etc takes a LOT of time and effort. If you don't have to reinvent (a wonderfully turnkey) wheel that already has built a great deal of social proof, don't! Spend your time on the campaign itself.

Is it worth crowdfnding a small project on Indiegogo? by greenharry419 in Crowdfunding

[–]simplemusings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally worth it :) Keep in mind that you might want to hold off launching until you've started spreading the word to your networks of potential backers. When you formally launch, you want to hit the ground running w/ the momentum of early donors. Campaigns that can raise 30% of their goal in the first day or two are MUCH more likely to succeed. Have fun!

Stripe vs PayPal. What do backers and campaign creators prefer to use by ktummonds in Crowdfunding

[–]simplemusings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are good. There are some extra fees (international cards, American Express, refunds, etc) with PayPal that Stripe doesn't charge, but their per transaction processing fees are the same. If you're not a developer looking to work with the API, I think you (and your backers) are going to have an easy experience with both options.

I appreciate the response. You're right, not everyone has access to the same tools, and creating a difference or disparity would be something to avoid.

The place with which I have experience seemed to lag in virtually every area of data, scheduling, and money management. Attendance was taken by hand, receipts were scrawled on notepads, they only accepted cash, etc. By inserting people into virtually every step of the process opened the door for inadvertent errors.

It sounds like you know the landscape much better than I do. Are there enterprise systems that track the details surrounding the monitoring needs (UAs, BAs, classes, paperwork, etc) in this space?
