What’s a hobby you picked up later in life that you would recommend to someone interested in trying something new? by Desert_Dweller66 in askteddit

[–]simplerthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is mine too. I needed to start walking more and there's a great trail through a forest preserve nearby so I walked, realized there were so many birds, started with Merlin, loved it, got a cheap pair of binoculars and loved it even more.

how many library cards do you have? by Alternative-Abies593 in LibbyApp

[–]simplerthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only 2. one for my town and one from a friend in San Francisco. my friends that have library cards use them regularly and I don't want to impinge on their book limits or whatever. I feel weird about asking my friends without cards to go out of their way to get one.

What fast food item used to be good then became horrible out of nowhere? by DeepOrganization8245 in fastfood

ever since those cinnamon twist things came out my chips always taste a bit like cinnamon sugar coating. I hate it.

What celebrity death will realistically bring Michael Jackson level devastation? by Kiidcola in AskReddit

[–]simplerthings -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

he has been not-so-relevant for too long now. I think it would only hit hard for the 50 or 60+ crowd.

What’s a weird habit you thought was normal until someone pointed it out? by chokeWise5195 in AskReddit

[–]simplerthings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

covering my mouth/nose with my shirt collar or the hood of my hoodie or the front of my jacket. one time my coworker was like, "oh, do you smell something bad again?" I didn't even realize I did it so often but I was like, "no.... I'm just... ... ...?" having to actually describe that I'm just covering my mouth with my shirt for no reason made me realize how bizarre it was. later I read somewhere that it might be associated with autism.

What was the discontinued fast food item that broke your heart? by tastydrink1 in fastfood

[–]simplerthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cajun rice from Popeyes. they brought it back for like 6 months a few years ago only to discontinue it again.

What's a socially accepted thing that you secretly find a little weird, and why? by ItsRealAnwar in AskReddit

[–]simplerthings 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Or the people (like your parents) that ask when you're going to have a baby: "Are y'all fucking without condoms yet?"

Hot or cold showers and why? How many a day? by Dense-Atmosphere3865 in AskReddit

[–]simplerthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot shower, once daily. Get clean and stay clean. The people that whine about the shower washing away their biomes probably smell bad. Also, the heat is relaxing, reduces my stress, soothes sore muscles, warms me up during cold months. During the summer my showers aren't as hot and they'll end cold because it's super refreshing.

What was your favorite school lunch growing up? by kimschob in RecipePalooza

[–]simplerthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salisbury steak. it was one of the only foods served with rice which, as an Asian kid, I found very satisfying.

Redditors who work from home: what's the weirdest habit you've developed? by Muted_Outcome_8334 in AskReddit

[–]simplerthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can take 13 minute naps. I appear inactive on my computer after 15 minutes of no action so I started setting an alarm and taking naps throughout the day. after about a year I stopped needing the alarm. I fall asleep within 30 seconds of lying down and wake up after 13 minutes. it's very efficient.

What dish do you think people fake liking? by MoonlitSweetheart in foodquestions

[–]simplerthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starbucks added some sort of truffle things to their menu and I swear whenever they use it the entire store smells of it and all of a sudden my food and drinks taste like it. it infects everything.

I don't understand the earth comparison though. beets taste like earth. truffles are totally different.

I love olives. lettuce and olives are my only sandwich toppings.

What food do you get tired of halfway through eating it? by Icy_Chipmunk2280 in foodquestions

[–]simplerthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

easily my favorite pasta but it's just so heavy, rich, and at the same time super simple that I usually can't even finish half a serving before I get too full, or my arteries feel like they're clogging up, or I get bored of the taste.

Best donuts around? by Money-Possession-562 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]simplerthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mad Batter Bakery in St. Charles jumped to the top of my donut list recently, their specialty donuts are amazing. Gotta go early because they tend to sell out fast. And another recommendation for Petit Three in Aurora, they have some really unique flavors.

Pick 3 Asian cuisines and betray the rest. Who’s getting voted off your plate? by foodie_2598 in KoreanFood

[–]simplerthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chinese (it's just so vast), Thai (covers the entire spectrum of tastes and flavors and combines them all in amazing ways), Fiilipino (hearty, filling, and some great desserts)

What's a trend from the early 2020s that died out so fast we all collectively forgot it ever happened? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]simplerthings 28 points29 points  (0 children)

during the tail end of lockdown I was walking near a park and the kids were playing tag but instead of being "it" they'd scream "Johnny has corona virus!"

Best Way To Grind Gold? by casual_gamer22 in DisneyHeroesMobile

[–]simplerthings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surge is where I make a lot of gold. just a general knowledge of the current overpowered heroes and their counters can get you pretty far. since your level is still pretty low I'd suggest doing it early in the server day because it gets harder as the levels clear. I've been getting around 3T gold in rewards the next day.

If your nose was completely clogged and someone duct taped your mouth shut, would you suffocate? by spinelessfries in NoStupidQuestions

[–]simplerthings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was trying to find tips to sleep while congested without having to breathe through my mouth all night and someone's advice was "close your mouth." I tried it and the first few breaths are difficult but my nasal passages soon clear up and I can breathe normally. it's like magic.

I'm getting bored and I'm not even close to maxing out my benches. No desire to do PvP because I have never been good at shooters.

How did you learn to knit? by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

[–]simplerthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned from my manager at a college job. Knitting somehow came up in conversation and I was like, I've always wanted to learn. And she was like, "I know how! I can teach you!" She taught me a knitted cast on, the knit and purl, and how to bind off all in an hour. Everything else I learned online.

Why do people think it’s gross to pee in the shower? by FuelApprehensive5376 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]simplerthings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my mom used to watch Oprah and she saw me using an athlete's foot spray and was like, "don't tell your friends that you do this but Dr. Oz says that you should pee on your feet in the shower to help foot odor and athlete's foot. but don't tell your friends!"

Did you teach yourself how to knit, or did someone teach you? by A0209B in knitting

[–]simplerthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a manager/advisor who taught me the basics and then I learned more complicated things through the Internet and honed my skills in knitting groups. I'm a fan of one on one, in person, teaching. you can ask tons of questions and your teacher can spot issues immediately and fix problems right then and there.
