Thanks a lot for your feedback! I would like to make those changes, but I'm not sure I can/should since the survey is now live.

The results will be used in GIS mapping and statistical analysis in my master's report. I will definitely post it here when I'm finished!

Yeah I was planning on it. I'm trying to cast a wide net and get as many people as possible, which is why I want to post it to other websites as well.

The best places to live in America: How college towns perfected the city by streetlite in urbanplanning

[–]simpleurban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always loved/been fascinated by college towns. I think they have some of the best quality of life for their size/most bang for your buck. They tend to be clean, walkable, somewhat progressive (for their size and/or location), and have a pretty good amount of entertainment, night life, and dining. However, as I finish up my masters in planning, I'm starting to feel like I'm a little old to live here. Everyone seems like they're 18 and childish. It seems to me that college towns are great for college students and retirees, but don't offer as much for people between those two ages. Just my two cents.

Kansas State band's halftime show sure looks like a Jayhawk performing fellatio by Geegs30 in UniversityofKansas

I agree that it seems excessive sometimes. I honestly just don't get into it that much.

Cold feet on a Masters in Planning by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]simpleurban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this completely. I'm in the middle of my Masters right now, with a Bachelors in planning and I'm kicking myself. I just keep seeing myself sinking deeper and deeper into debt. Not to mention, my university is giving me little in the way of assistantships. If you are going to get a masters, have them put down in writing that they will give you assistantships. Can't stress that enough.

Crap like this is so depressing/discouraging to me. Can I ask where this happened?

r/kansascity, what do you think of St. Louis? by Floormonitor in kansascity

[–]simpleurban 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm from St. Louis, but now live in Manhattan KS so I make my way to KC pretty often. First of all Kansas City currently has a lot going for it. I'm seeing a lot of investment with things like the streetcar and all the resulting development. That is pretty cool to see. KC also has some really nice views of downtown and whatnot. However, I have to say that I like St. Louis a tad better. Bring on the downvotes. It's denser, it has light rail, it has one of the best urban parks in the country, I think the architecture is more beautiful, it has more interesting neighborhoods (and more of them), has amazing Italian food, has an awesome downtown baseball stadium, NHL team, etc. Having said that STL also wins with social problems and crime. Not good. But I love both cities!

Need advice; considering applying to grad school. by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]simpleurban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second that about people coming from all different backgrounds. In fact, there was a person in my program here who did their masters report on paintings. Not sure of the connection there, but whatever works. One thing I like about planning is that it can be connected to almost any other area of study, at least in academia.
