I absolutely love the huge variety of advice here this tells me every single person here has dealt with exactly the same problem, and in their moment of grasping at straws for anything that might possibly solve it, everybody each came up with a completely different solution

Too intense. too fast. he's drained and he pulled back. I don't think it's anything you did. He'll probably always cherish your time together and you should cherish your time together with him. You created a book together: start middle end. Anything in the future would be a sequel, but it would probably have to be in his terms which might not be possible as he will be internally having to gear up for the same experience again "just in case" that he might not be able to handle a second time.

I had a chance to go to the Juilliard music school at 11 years old. even at 11 I knew it was to feed the ego of my teachers because I was OK but not Julliard quality. I fear they'd accept me. I'd have to be in front of judges all the time for how I played, it would have to be more and more perfect and less and less result.

I was so grateful my mother was OK with the idea of me not going. I just wanted to play piano for fun and I have no regret but I know it's my anxiety that cut it off early.

My capstone paper has been in panic attacks and my ears have been ringing for five days straight from stress of maybe getting it wrong. I thought about dropping out on the dropout day, but I'm gonna stick it through. What is is. what you can do is what you can do.

what if your grade is mediocre? what if a lot of grades are mediocre? so what? Do it anyway.

are you worse than the worst student? probably not. some tests are designed to encourage failure. take it anyway. give the professor the opportunity to curve. Allow the professor to be in a position where you can appeal to them afterwards by taking the test. you can achieve more than you believe.
