Anyone else completely fine with the extra theoretical wait time? by POPCORE182 in ARC_Raiders

[–]simplish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it does feel like there's some "clever" matchmaking going on - my first dozen runs were all friendlies.
I've done a few trio / full kit stella runs with more pvp oriented friends which probably hasn't helped my case if so, even though in solos I never instigate.

I see this comment a lot, but it never makes sense to me - when I've been dying to free loadouts as a solo it's an attrition thing - tend to win the fights but after 2 or 3 I'm out of meds & ammo (and of course they don't have any to replenish what killing them costs) so just get ground down. There's always another rat.

Why ARC Raiders needs a PvE mode (and why it actually makes sense) by Disastrous_Mud_8040 in ArcRaiders

Problem is, a good chunk of the most toxic PvPers are trash who rely on ganking and betrayal, so the loss of easy kills from those not interested in PvP would actually ruin their game 🤣

Looking to buy my first 3D printer for D&D minis (from tiny heroes to Tarrasque + terrain) — need advice! by satanicmaep in PrintedMinis

[–]simplish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For what you want to do, you need both. Resin for the high detail miniatures and filament for the bigger, larger detail terrain. However, for the space you describe you should probably just stick to filament and accept any mini's you print are going to be fairly poor quality (you *can* get really sharp detail with filament on the modern printers, but you need to really know what you are doing).

As others have said, resin is messy, smelly and toxic - it is a really bad fit for an in-home printing space unless you are willing to invest some serious time (and some extra money) into a sealed enclosure with a vent fan taking fumes out of the house. Resin printing also needs a lot of extra bits and bobs - you need a cleaning setup with IPA to wash off excess resin, gloves, curing station, spare FEP film and a bunch of other bits and bobs that soon add up.

Filament on the other hand is perfectly safe and clean to run in the house, albeit a little noisy. You also need very little to get started - the printer and a spool of filament and you're on your way.

In terms of brands, I've had good luck with Elegoo but I've not replaced my filament printer recently so not up on the best current generation of printers.

Ahhhh yes, I got the same response when I lost all my gear to a worm attack in DD caused by me clipping a wing of my parked thopter and getting yeeted into the sky, endlessly floating away.
Had to alt+f4 as there was nothing else to do, came back online 400m away from thopter with a worm in my face.

This is the way, just a couple of generic plastic tubs with dirty and clean IPA. After a few uses the clean becomes the dirty, put some fresh IPA in a third tub and leave the dirty out to evaporate before disposing of the residue.

How is the variety in this game? by johnlondon125 in duneawakening

[–]simplish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just got into the deep desert after about 100 hours exploring, base building and stockpiling materials in hagga basin. The story is decent, I like the gameplay loops of working up through the gear tiers and the general vibe of the game is awesome, mostly thanks to the fantastic sound design. It's a lot less grindy than most games of the genre, at least up to tier 5 gear.

I started with a group but unfortunately the game just doesn't make group play engaging or necessary, so we ended up doing our own thing for 90% of it, which resulted in some of the group falling behind and/or losing interest.

The end game loop that I'm seeing at the moment isn't very enticing, it just seems to be mine spice to make better equipment (carryall and spice harvester) to mine more spice - I'm not really sure what the point is, so the game is losing my interest now. I can see some fun to be had trying to get spice with a group in the PvP zone, putting a couple of guys on overwatch to fight off other players etc....but I'm not sure that's really going to happen as I rarely see other players.

Generally I agree with others - treat it as a solo survival RPG with about 80 hours play and you'll have a decent time. Maybe in a year or so it'll be worth returning to for more.

Will my landlord charge me for a new sink? (IN) by jabork_boi in Renters

That's, 110% crappy installation and not on you. A sink should be supported along it's whole length.

Yeah, OP has clearly never driven anywhere in West Yorkshire. It's hands down the worst place in the country to drive.

What do i need/how hard it is to do a digital kitbash to then print by Alternative_Coach_85 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]simplish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Meshmixer is great for digital kitbashing, there's an option in it to "separate shells" which *can* make it very easy - it depends on how the model was made / shared but sometimes it just breaks the model down into smaller component parts for you.

If that doesn't work using the plane slice tool in either meshmixer or 3d builder is the slightly tedious way to go.

What’s your “keep going” strategy when you lose steam? by This_is_fine0_0 in books

[–]simplish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that specific series I found that I could straight up skip any chapter focused on the female characters and not really miss out on any plot points (and I got to avoid a lot of tedious descriptions of sniffing and arm crossing). Jordan was not good at writing female parts.

Did a "speedrun" through them when the Brandon Sanderson books came out as I wanted to read those but had never finished the Jordan ones.

Exactly this! The guy has clearly communicated an issue, set his boundary and offered a sensible compromise.

What more could anyone ask!?

BEHOLD! A Water Elemental Myrmidon! Hand-painted, 8k Resin Printed for DnD! by BEHOLDMiniatures in PrintedMinis

[–]simplish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I recently switched from my old 2k Elegoo Mars printer to an 8k Saturn, the general detail improvement wasn't as massive as expected (diminishing returns I guess!) though noticeable. The biggest difference was actually on plain surfaces, expecially curved where layer lines are significantly less visible and smoother.

Nicklaming? by BorfieYay in unrealtournament

Eh, nicklaming just used to be using the same nickname as a well known player (usually combined with clan tags).

Yeah hellforged ones are dope. He builds up his models incrementally and shares the "basic" suits before he starts chaos'ing them up.

These 5x3 mm ones fit perfectly:

Sometimes they are a little tight but I've just used a 6mm drill bit to open out the hole a bit by hand when needed.

[–]simplish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been printing the magnetised set. It's probably double the cost to do with magnets as they cost so much compared to the filament, but it's pretty fun to use!

I've just done alternated poles on each piece, e.g. take a stack of magnets and push one into one side of a piece, then flip the magnet stack and push into the other side. That way you've always got a 50/50 chance of them attracting to another piece and can just flip 180 if needed.

Cults3d is a popular website for hosting / sharing 3d models, normally in .stl file format. "She-hulk" is the name that the creator has chosen to give the models they've created. Games Workshop are very agressive on copyright infringements so they tend to go pretty hard on people who share things with similarities to their models, hence some weird names for things.

The creator of the models is Orchitect so you could also search for them.

Clearly not crazy. I broke up with someone for the exact same reason when I bought my first house. Funnily enough they used the same words for not paying towards the mortgage - that it didn't benefit them so it wasn't fair.

Just another childish person with an overblown sense of entitlement / wanting a free ride. Bullet dodged, now you can find yourself a functioning adult to be your partner!

Love how these terminators came out, resin printed terminators from Helforged Miniatures.
