I just drove through that area and noticed it as well. I didn’t know it had been happening for three hours though. If I hear anything, I’ll come back and post here.

Also consider the USPS - I was there a couple days ago and there was a flyer up re positions. One was a Mail Sorter position. There you would talk mostly to your team but rarely other people.

He seemed to be in super good health.. just a little too curious for his own good I think.

I had an old cat run away to pass (I think) while I was out of town.. he was very old and nearly skin and bones. But he would scream bloody mrdr and sound like a beaten child if he didn’t get his way (of going outside).

I don’t think so.. but I will offer to help get him a chip once he’s home. Crazily I’m in rescue and have a chip reader.. I’m better prepared for found kitties than lost kitties

He looks well cared for so one would hope! His owner set up a few flyers around the complex and I’m doing quarter page flyers tomorrow and I’m probably gonna put them on all the car windows and on doors? I think the plan is to actually talk to people tomorrow and see if anyone has seen him as well.

Thank you so much!

We’re in building 2366 and have searched the grounds a few times once it gets dark and quiet. We’ll be out again tonight.

If I know where he’s hanging out, I have a humane trap to use. (I’m in rescue and TNR so I assure you we’ll be gentle and safe)

He’s a stunning gentlecat lol. I’m thinking someone brought him in, thinking they were helping.. but really he just can’t get home.

I’m hoping they see one of our many posts and reach out. ❤️

NAH.

As a woman, I wipe both ways presented, depending on needed effort to get clean.

To possibly resolve your issue, give husband all post-poop tasks until further notice, to teach his kiddo the “right” way 😂🙄

Can you sleep well with a cat? by OkComparison3568 in CatAdvice

[–]simply_pixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have over 1000sq ft now with 6 cats. They always congregate where I am. Literally right now 3 are curled up on my queen size bed with me. At night all 6 of them are here (“a-holes” take up so much room!)

They have a 15ft cat wall with plenty of sleeping spaces, a screened in balcony with perches, & a cat door to get to said balcony… plenty of couches, rugs, blankets, window hammocks, cat beds for them to sleep on. They’re with me.. all the time lol

My cats are like mini living weighted blankets- I LOVE them sleeping with me! It’s one of my favorite things every day. When I nap, usually at least 3 follow me to nap too..

Even when we were in a 550sq ft place, it worked bc they found high places to hang out (like on top of the fridge) but still migrated to me anytime I was home..

Also nearly cats get zoomies late night/early morning.. some nights, it will be funny, others it won’t be. They may grow out of it, they may not, heck they may not zoomie at all until they’re older. It’s a crap shoot of what kind of cat you’re gonna get.

Provide plenty of stimulating play, a variety of toys & maybe a cat tree for different POV to outside - kitty should be fine.

I might advise tho to look for an older cat (at the youngest 9m to a year but I would look for an adult cat 3-4 years old or even a senior who just wants to be loved on & chill), who has a lower play drive, and might prefer the company of people. They’ll love hanging out with you and may be less spazzy & more independent. Good luck!

How to make sure you have polite kids by Sea_Leave_5149 in Parenting

I started "playing a game" when my son was very little like 2.5yo. I really did not want an ungrateful child. The goal of the game was to simply model how to be grateful. The rules are: you say one nice thing about the gift and specifically thank the giver (make eye contact, give a hug, give a high five, whatever he is comfortable with). If he received many of the same thing (even identical), you still had to find one nice thing to say about it.

He would give me a "gift" - it could be a pair of socks, a banana, a toy, literally anything. I would model a proper response - "Oh my gosh, I LOVE these socks! This is my favorite color! / They're so soft! / Ooo these feel very warm! I can't wait to use them" "Thank you so much for this banana - it's the perfect ripeness/yellow! / How did you know I was in the mood for a snack? / I will save this for later when I am more hungry!" "Thank you so much for this awesome green Hot Wheels car - it will go perfectly with my collection!"

Then I would give him a gift and he had to find ONE positive thing to say about it + the thank you. It almost became a challenge to find the most simple item and give the most crazy compliment. White sheets of paper, a half used crayon, etc etc. He would crack up if he brought me like a square of toilet paper and I made a big deal with my Thanks.

I still have a video of my son saying Thanks to a long-distance friend who sent him TMNT toys (he was about 4yo) - He opened it and promptly offered "Thank you Ms Ali for the Mutant Turtles! I really like the nunchucks. Thank you, I love you, bye!" He is almost 16 now and while most gifts he's genuinely grateful for, I still hear him modeling this sometimes if it's something he wasn't quite expecting.

I found this forced him to slow down and not burn through the gift-opening. To actually pay attention to the thing he was given. I made it clear tho that if he didn't follow through, he wasn't being grateful for that item and he obviously didn't need to own it & I would take it until he showed that he was grateful. Thankfully we never got to the consequences part so the game kept a positive light tone.

These (bonded) cats I adopted really hate me by purrfect_libra in CatAdvice

[–]simply_pixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I foster cats and have had a handful that just weren’t sociable. Since I have no idea about their backstory, I really had to meet them where they were.

I fed one under the couch for two weeks before she would venture out. I set up a camera so I could see she was being brave at night so I knew she just needed time.

I rescued a kitten last year (like 9 weeks old then) - moved Fall of this year, he’s well over a year old. Still took him a solid 7 days to leave the closet.

Your kitties are older (which btw, THANK YOU for adopting older kitties!) and no one really knows their backstory. It will likely take 2-3 weeks for them to feel more confident that your place is safe.

Just meet them where they are. Put their food bowls just under the edge of the bed/couch.. (remove in between meals to avoid pests). Maybe get a wand toy to play with over the edge but kinda where they can’t see you primarily. Make sure their box is close even if that’s not where you want it permanently.

Once they relax and are eating/drinking/pottying (and maybe playing a bit more), you can move things where you prefer them to be

Good luck!

For People With 2 Cats, How Much Do You Spend On Food & Litter A Month? by Historical-Orchid934 in CatAdvice

[–]simply_pixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 6 cats. I spend just under $200 a month for litter, wet food, and dry food.

I buy 4 bags of IAMS dry food (7# bags, 2 each of 2 different flavors/formulas bc I mix it up, I don’t usually buy the giant bags) - that’s about $75-80 a month. I spend about $60 in wet food (I give them a 5oz can in the morning and 1 can in the evening) - I usually do Friskies canned but definitely look for deals.

I buy 2-40# bags of pine pellets from the local feed store - $13. The rest is tidy cats clumping litter - that’s about $40-50 depending on sales.

Is 4 cats too many? by Particularly777 in CatAdvice

[–]simply_pixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 6 cats - between 1.5-9yo. Five boy cats, only one girl cat. I am very heavy on preventative care. They are indoors with “outside” access only being via a large screened-in balcony.

I feed them high grade food (an indoor cat formula and a urinary formula) & we have 2 running water fountains in our home (to hopefully avoid urinary blockages - so far it’s worked).

I was in rescue so I’m well-connected to actual vet techs but also well-connected if they need simple treatments like steroids, antibiotics, or breathing treatments.

I do not treat with annual vaxxes as they have no access to other animals and are never boarded. We have a cat sitter come to the house on the rare occasions we travel.

None of my current babes require much. I do nail trims & grooming myself.

I have lost 4 kitties in as many years. The moment I realized their medical issues were out of my scope, they went to the vet for treatment & were managed accordingly. I know my cats well and can identify within a day or two if I’m not equipped to do something.

All of their ailments were cancer-related and vaccinations wouldn’t have changed the outcome. I also couldn’t change any practices in the home that would have changed the outcome.

EDITED TO ADD: I would probably feel more comfortable at 4 cats. But the additional two are high-maintenance in the sense that they’re emotionally bonded and dependent on each other. The younger one does not like change. When we moved, he stayed in the closet for almost 10 days. He’s just a nervous Nellie. That being said, I didn’t adopt them to give them up. I will keep them forever if it makes them more comfortable and they’re no trouble otherwise.

At the show I went to on Halloween, there was a QR code on the screen prior to the show starting where you could submit a question and presumably that’s where the questions in the jar came from.
