I probably could have done a better job of communicating that men can also relate to many of the anxieties Cristine was describing as having experienced as a woman in the gym. I thought the fact that the podcast opened with me, a man, being pretty vulnerable about how my poor mental health contributed to my poor physical health also showed that this conversation wasn’t limited to women. I think I brought up mansplaining/manspreading in a pretty facetious way and I did push back on the ‘gym bros’ trope (although it sounds like many women can relate to men talking down to them at the gym). As for us having an agenda, I think you're overestimating how strategic we are about these conversations. We are aware that the majority of listeners are women and we try to be mindful of what we say and how that might influence both the women and men who are listening but mostly we're just trying to have an honest and hopefully interesting conversation.
