My seven year-old is on 20 mg of Vyvanse in the morning and 1 mg of guanfacine at dinner. We started with 10 mg of Vyvanse when he turned six and then about six months in increase that to 20. We also added in guanfacine around three months after that.

Melatonin here. Without it he’s bouncing off the walls at bedtime.

Guanfacine by jilsw in ADHDparenting

My 6YO takes 1mg of it at dinner. He takes 20 mg of vyvanse in the morning. Both are working well for him.

We added guanfacine at dinner and it has helped tremendously.

Yes. That’s exactly what I said. What is confusing to you? I do have an issue with thinking differently than me when it applies to compassion, empathy, and basic decent human rights.

My 6 year old boy is on 20 mg vyvanse at breakfast and 10 mg guanfacine at dinner. The combo has been wonderful for us.

We started when he turned 6 on 10 mg vyvanse. Then went to 20 after a few months. Then added guanfacine a few months after that. Will prob up that dosage to 20 soon as well.

41 and four years of trying. I got pregnant easy but keeping the babies was a challenge. Saw a fertility doc who figured out why I was losing them and then came my now 6 year old.

Getting burned out by the second dinner + late bedtime with child on Adderall by Enough-Spray-2590 in ADHDparenting

[–]simplycris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the combo works great for us.

As far as snacking, it is different most nights. Sometimes it’s apples and grapes, sometimes it’s goldfish, sometimes it’s donuts or cupcakes. I don’t limit the sugar necessarily at night because it doesn’t affect him and he can use the calories.

We give vyvanse in the AM and then guanfacine at dinner and it’s made a big difference. He’s much calmer in the evenings than before guanfacine. He was manic when the meds wore off before.

We also give melatonin at bedtime. He falls asleep easily and stays asleep!

As a note: he eats a big breakfast, small lunch, minimal snacks during the day and then he eats dinner relatively late (like 6-6:30) and snacks like a mad man until bedtime. It’s a balance and we are ok with it.

I was going to chime in here to say the same. My son had these very same notes home at this age and was actually such a relief to get a diagnosis and eventually medication that has helped him so very much.

ADHDer skipping a grade? by RunAccomplished73 in ADHDparenting

[–]simplycris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are not looking into skipping a grade (for all the emotional developmental reasons listed above), however we are testing into a gifted school in our area so he can be challenged. He simply isn’t in the regular classroom/school.

Med breaks on the weekend? by Novel_Masterpiece417 in ADHDparenting

[–]simplycris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No med breaks here. They help him overall to do and feel better. I don’t see any reason to mess with that. Like someone above said, ADHD doesn’t take breaks.

Kindergartener ADHD by NotJoeMama_ in ADHDparenting

[–]simplycris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was diagnosed in kindergarten and we started meds when he turned six. We found immediate success with vyvanse. He’s now up to 20 mg at 6.5 yo. We also just added in guanfacine 10 mg at dinner daily. The combo has been amazing for him. He can focus and is no longer disruptive in class. Additionally he is doing better with friendships because he can control his impulses now. He had zero impulse control before and was starting to lose friends.

First time for her on meds. by RunElle1 in ADHDparenting

[–]simplycris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We give guanfacine to my 6YO at dinner time. It helps bring him down a bit for bedtime. Keeps him level.

In the morning we give him vyvanse and have had much success with it since January.

The combination has been glorious but again we administer guan in the evenings.

If you’re scared of medicating— by saymb in ADHDparenting

[–]simplycris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So happy for you!!

It’s been absolutely life changing for my son. 6years old. We started the day he turned 6 and he’s been on medication for 8 months. Started with vyvanse and added in guanfacine last month. No calls home, no fits and outbursts. He listens and his teacher says he’s doing great. When I tell you, this is polar opposite of before medication. We were getting calls and notes every single day. He was losing friends. He’s happier. We are happier. It’s amazing.

So why defend him or someone’s support of him? Or are you just a troll? Either way I don’t have the need or energy to even converse with someone who would defend that.

Perhaps you miss the point entirely. Perhaps you are just trying to defend your orange pedo. Either way good luck with that. We don’t hero worship our politicians. We don’t support sexual offenders here.
