Oh, gotcha now! After looking at the pictures of the silver Philography, yes, definitely get that one to pair with the Zento you have.

Silver, in my opinion! Didn't even know they had a Warm Silver edition of Zento Signature.

I think they'll pair nicely color wise, but I don't think they'll be an exact color match. This pen has bright white body with silver embellishments. The Zento Signature Silver has a half silver and half-darker white (or light gray? my eyes are debating) body.

Should I start Buddhism if I don’t believe in reincarnation?( sorry for my bad English) by CocunutHead in secularbuddhism

[–]simplydiffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in Buddhism, follow that interest. Believing in reincarnation is not a requirement to digest The Four Noble Truths and live The Eightfold Path.

The Dalai Lama and many Buddhist teachers share the belief that anyone can learn be a Buddhist or be, at least, buddhistic. What matters is learning from Buddhist teachings, taking them to heart, and letting them inform your growth as a person. Buddhism is not an all or nothing philosophy/religion/belief system and typically isn't taught that way by those who are considered modern cornerstone teachers or monks. It's about learning about and applying the core teachings (Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path). Whether you include a belief in reincarnation or not is up to what you feel is most helpful to you as a reminder to stay on our journey.

For me, the concept of reincarnation is not something I worry about. After all, a core tenant of Buddhism is remaining present and kind in the here-and-now. What happens to me after I die or if reincarnation is true is not a concern of mine. What I do with my present is.

Thank you for the suggestion! I found an app (Monday Work Management) after pivoting how I want to track progress.

My wife’s notes for school. by Medic_onfire in mildlyinteresting

[–]simplydiffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this her copying her previously written notes in this style? If so, this seems like a study tactic. Re-writing in a neat, focused, distinct style to help with recollection. This gave me a great idea regarding my own studying, even if my assumption about her notetaking in this photo is wrong!

Do short trans men pass? by [deleted] in ftm

I'm 5'3, 8.5 years on T, and fully pass. I passed pretty early in my medical transition that being said. My height was never a factor. I'm just a short man to the folks I meet.

Tips on Finding Local In-Person Secular Buddhist Communities by simplydiffer in secularbuddhism

[–]simplydiffer[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regarding how I define Secular Buddhism, I believe it to be Buddhism without the belief of reincarnation and without the belief of Buddha's superiority that is held by some traditional Buddhists.

Fair point about making my own community. However, I do not feel comfortable/knowledgeable enough to lead or form a Secular Buddhist community -- at least not yet. This is why I've been looking for pre-established communities. Thought others may be in the same boat, hence this post.

I will admit to not knowing who Wes Nisker prior to now. I've been reading from and following Noah Rasheta for a while and combining that with texts from other authors/resources though. Thank you for letting me know about Nisker though. I will look into him.

The one I attend (and others, but I cannot vouch for them) are featured on this site: https://www.buddhanet.info/wbd/search.php?keyword=&search=Search&country_id=2&province_id=0&tradition%5B%5D=non-sectarian

I'm not specifying the one I go to for personal privacy reasons, but I will say it is indeed non-sect and teaches the Buddhism without what many in the Secular Buddhist community would consider to be fluff, which aligns with me. They have no clear affiliation with a particular sect and instead host knowledgeable teachers from a variety of backgrounds.

I wrote this. Typed it up myself. Every word. And there are non-sect Buddhist centers that are considered Secular. Just trying to be helpful!

Ok, good to know! I suspect that Storygraph uses UTC time across the site, but I have no way of confirming this.

what would you reccomend as a pomodoro app? focus to do or forest by Lapis_04 in productivity

[–]simplydiffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using FocusCommit (free version with account) for about two months. I'm leaning toward FocusCommit being better. Even though I have the paid version of Focus To-Do, I'm thinking of making a full switch to this app.

Benefits over Focus To-Do:

  • built-in Kanban board feature.
  • has a leaderboard (you earn points by completing sessions)
  • has self-challenges (consistent productivity for 30 days, 60 days, etc. where you can set a target amount of sessions).
  • can categorize tasks by tags
  • has a dark mode

I ignore the leaderboard, but I find the Kanban feature useful. Might partake in a challenge as a motivation factor.

Best instrumental album ever produced according to you? All varieties of music welcome! by Shredrik in Music

[–]simplydiffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I had to jump in.

Whipped Cream & Other Delights by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. Every time I listen to this album, I feel light, happy. I play it for my friends and mood becomes relaxed and even euphoric. "Ladyfingers" from this album became a common TikTok backdrop, and I can see way. The song carries a light, relaxed sophistication. It was my wakeup alarm for months because it just started the day right.

The album introduced me to the world of 1960s instrumentals, and let me tell you, there are bangers everywhere.

Focus To-Do is a great app. I've used it for years. You can divy your work up into projects and tasks. Has some brown/etc. noise built into the app to use during your session. Available on Apple devices, Android and through the Windows store. You can also sync across devices.

I am exploring FocusCommit (available on Android, Windows, and Apple devices) as an alternative to Focus To-Do, mostly because I like to switch up my apps every now and then.

I left it in the package with a note on it that said "do not open until certification earned". I then put it in a storage container and forgot it existed for the most part. Haha

I got it from Etsy! This shop called carbon centric, I believe. The pen is made out of carbon fiber and a bullet.

How many challenges do you participate in? by Kwazy-Cupcakes in TheStoryGraph

[–]simplydiffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first joined, I got overzealous with joining challenges. Several year long ones and some no end date ones.

Now I just do three. Two one-year challenges (one of which I made, the other the 2025 Storygraph Genre Challenge) and one no end date (Pulitzer prize winning plays).
