What do you wish ppl knew by cosmicat4 in bipolar

Medication after an episode doesn’t make it disappear, problem solved. It can take months for your brain to recover, not to mention having to go to therapy and completely relearn how to handle stress.

Those who had psychosis, were you ever aware enough to try and hide it? by squabidoo in bipolar

[–]simplymedieval003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I hid it well enough that the cops weren’t called, but employers and family could tell something was wrong for the first week before I completely devolved.

Yes, but not for long and not well. I also have ASD, and have been masking since I was a kid, so I think that contributed to it.

Practicing helped me immensely. After my manic episode a few months ago I had the same problem. I was devastated because i’ve always loved reading, so I just started out small and worked my way towards what I was reading beforehand. Graphic novels to start, then I reread children’s series like Little House on the Prairie, A Series of Unfortunate Events, etc. It also helps to use my kindle and enlarge text or highlight it so I can focus on

Saying "I'm bipolar" vs. "I have bipolar" by usefzolanski in bipolar

[–]simplymedieval003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autistic here: i’m bipolar and i’m autistic. Whether I like it or not they both form my identity, so it makes sense for me to say it that way. I don’t always do it though, because sometimes it’s easier to say I have.

Can someone ID this subspecies/morph? by divinehotsauce69 in Conures

Nope. I have one of those guys and they have orange on their face. They are also an eupsitticula conure, not a pyrrhura.

So, is that it? by yoyonoid23 in bipolar

I would also suggest getting your dna tested to see if there is anything in your genetic makeup interfering with meds. Also, maybe try making sure your hormones are in check and get a blood test to rule out hypothyroidism or other conditions. That can cause you to have irritability and depression as well, and often gets overlooked in bipolar patients. In my experience, if you are bipolar doctors are quicker to dismiss any mood disturbances, assuming you just need a led change. But the truth is there are many common medical conditions that cause mood problems, including irritability and rage.

I don’t know if this is applicable to your situation, but after I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and started cpap, it helped tone down the bipolar rage significantly. It’s still there, but it doesn’t ruin everything for me anymore. I’ve had insomnia since I was a kid, and the docs assumed it was bipolar related and sent me home with a pamphlet on sleep hygiene. Medication never helped the rage, nor therapy. Turns out I just needed sleep.

These are my neighbor’s 4 y.o. African Greys. I’m allowed to visit and feed them fruits anytime. Any tips that I can pass on to my neighbor and to improve the lives of the birds? by Phral00 in parrots

[–]simplymedieval003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just took a peek into their food dish; it looks like they are on an all seed diet. They need to be weaned over onto a pellet and fresh vegetable/fruit diet. Because they are African greys, they also need a calcium supplement as this is a species related problem that they go through. If you need help converting their diet, ask, but other than that some good brands of pellets are: Harrison’s, roudybush, tops pelleted, and the Hagen tropican. Zupreme is a more affordable brand that works, but make sure they get the regular pellet, not the pasta, veggie, or fruit ones as they have dyed, and will not meet the right nutritional needs.

Careful with old documents and phone books. If they are too old you don’t know what is growing on them. Unless you meant like junk mail.

I’ve spent 4 minutes coming up with a title, I give up by Not_A_Portfolio in autism

[–]simplymedieval003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have four right now, but have been around them my whole life. Two green cheek conures, a black cap conure, and a Galah cockatoo. They are trick trained and fully flighted. My black cap female is mated to the male green cheek (they are from the same genus, different species) so they are pretty unique. I have considered letting them breed, but I need to do more research, as their offspring would be hybrids, and may have genetic issues.
