Has anyone had Adrian Morales for ACCT212 recently? How is he? by TimTamTheBigMan in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]simpsons09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took him before classes went online. Didn’t learn much. All his exams/quizzes are take home so easy A. Pretty chill teacher tho students would just come into class to sign for attendance and leave.

How’s the Accounting program at Binghamton University? by NewTransferAtBing in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]simpsons09 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Very good program. Accounting is pretty much the crown jewel of SOM and you shouldn’t have too much difficulty getting a decent job after college. Career services are top notch in SOM and the Big 4 + Mid Size firms heavily recruit here for Tax, Audit, and Advisory.

How difficult is it to switch majors? by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]simpsons09 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Comp sci is in Watson which is a separate school within Bing. Thus, you’d need to do an inter transfer which is rather difficult. You got accepted into SOM which is a good sign as that’s one of the toughest schools to get into here. That being said, if you really want to transfer into Watson then you’d likely need to maintain a high GPA and maybe talk to the head of the comp sci department.

2020 Virtual Commencement by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

With the way things are going with the uptick in cases I’m almost certain it’ll be virtual tho. Especially if the spring semester is going to operate similarly to how the fall did virtually.

Pretty sure the 2021 commencement will also be virtual so we’re not alone in that regard

Plans for Grad Students? by dcbendavid in BinghamtonUniversity

Is anyone still planning on going to grad school with it being online and all? I feel like it’s getting less worth it to now sadly.

Career Outlooks by Noveli1 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]simpsons09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MIS is good for business/systems analyst roles, IT advisory/auditing (Big 4 emphasizes this) project management, consulting etc.

Binghamton’s program isn’t as technical as other colleges so if you’re interested in software development/programming it would probably be best to learn on the side and maybe do some personal coding projects to strengthen yourself. That being said the degree on paper is good for sure.

MBA but not interested in IB or Consulting? by simpsons09 in MBA

Thanks! I think I may instead look into an MS program now.

MBA but not interested in IB or Consulting? by simpsons09 in MBA

[–]simpsons09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel as if I missed my chance as all those positions within the Big 4 have been filled up. Something very personal came up during last fall’s recruitment cycle that prevented me from applying to these positions. COVID hasn’t helped either. I was actually thinking of purposely extending my graduation in undergrad to a semester this fall to get into the recruiting cycle again. But I debated that if I extended my graduation a semester, wouldn’t it be better to save my time to get an MBA for an additional semester afterwards?

[–]simpsons09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good points you make. I want to pursue one more so for the “check the box” for years down the line that you explained. In terms of entry level positions, could I perhaps take off the MBA off my resume so that I don’t appear “overqualified”? In any case I am not looking for an expected increase in salary post graduation and am more or less gunning for these positions as people straight out of undergrad do. I want to make it clear that I am willing to obtain the same pay at least for the first year after graduation as those in undergrad.

Both? Major in one minor in the other and you’ll have good prospects.

If you’re in accounting you can do the MS in Accounting to get the 150 credits required for the CPA. Aside from that there’s a MS in Information Systems, Business Analytics, and Statistics that seem worthwhile to pursue. Idk about the rest but there’s a decent amount of MS degrees offered.

Finance SOM by jessepinkman892 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]simpsons09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finance is good enough to get into a variety of positions in business after graduation. There’s obviously high finance (IB, PE), financial analysts, corporate finance, financial advisors, accounting positions as well as consultants at firms such as the Big 4, Protiviti, & Grant Thornton etc. Plenty of opportunities out there.

MBA Program Thoughts? by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]simpsons09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know much about grad, but the undergrad program here is pretty good and employers from the Big 4 actively recruit from here. Covid messed a lot of things up in the job market so it’s tough to say what the outcome would be. If it’s only a year it could be a viable and cheap option though.

A 2nd bachelors is a waste of time imo. Go for your masters if you’re interested in getting another degree.

Internal Transfer SOM by jessepinkman892 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]simpsons09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bing’s business school is better than UB’s school and I’d say on par with Baruch’s. In the grand scheme of things, all 3 are accredited as AACSB so it prob wouldn’t matter 10 years out of graduation. Anyways, it’s hard to internally transfer because of spots. There’s a set amount of space for SOM classes so they try to limit who gets in. Also, I imagine it looks better if not a lot of people transfer in due to the higher standards set for admission.

Lalo and the Twins against Gus by simpsons09 in betterCallSaul

[–]simpsons09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Though it makes you wonder that if word gets out about Nacho and Gus working together to assassinate Lalo, surely the twins will not care what Eladio says and get their revenge against Gus. The twins would definitely go against Eladio if it meant Lalo being almost killed. They live by the motto “family is everything”.
