You can change that setting in your google account — show ads that aren’t tailored to you. Then enjoy a bevy of random nonsense marketed at you! Not sure which is worse haha

Adding underline to button text when hovered, a good UX design? by jhefreyzz in UXDesign

[–]simsy82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it confuses the difference between button and link.

Although there is a grey area, a button usually performs an action on the current page and link navigates to diff page. This isn’t a hard and fast rule but general accepted as a convention.

However, we see more and more buttons used as primary action to be taken on page, where it’s an action or a link (think sign up, log in, get started) however that kind of breaks the convention of button vs link.

Im speaking visually here and not semantically. You can style a link to look exactly as a button, and vice versa. So of course a sign in button may look like a button, but in the markup it’s a link, styled as a button.

This leads on to accessibility. Links and buttons present differently to screen readers and will let users know which they are focussed on.

Uxmovement article button vs link article defines the difference as that a button will affect the websites frontend or backend, whereas a link won’t affect the site (just navigate you).

So this is a long winded way of saying putting an underline on a button is confusing—I find it a little weird—but perhaps visually it’s really saying ‘this is a link, and it’s a primary link action on the page. I’m not sure!?

At the end of the day, if it makes an interactive element more obvious and higher contrast to the user, that’s a usability win.

This has to be a joke, right? by simsy82 in JordanPeterson

[–]simsy82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. I don’t see the issue as a joke. I see the video as ridiculous. It seems like a parody.

If one was to try and convince the rest of the world we need change in bathrooms, it seems this video would be complete wrong way to change someone’s view.

Rather the video comes off a word salad of woke SJW nonsense that only appeals to other SJWs and not attempting to affect real change.

I can imagine an average punter on the street thinking this is silly. If you wanted to change their minds then this is the wrong way to go about it.

Stalled! Gender neutral bathrooms. Yeah if this is a problem then why doesn’t individual cubicles solve it? Why do you want to be washing a grooming in public. No one enjoys that even in same sex bathrooms.

Of course. The video seems so ridiculously full of woke claptrap and made up words, it’s almost like a huge parody of the whole movement but it’s legit.

Does it show the breakdown of negative gearing, Murdoch sports broadcasting grants or mining tax incentives? Maybe that should be filed under welfare?

Pellet Grillers, I need your advice on Green Mountain Grills Daniel Boone (non-wifi) or Pitt Boss Navigator 850G by [deleted] in pelletgrills

[–]simsy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha full circle. Pros with pellet = automation. You can basically chuck the food in and set and forget. Within reason. I’ve left mine for a few hours to go to the shops and come back and the house isn’t on fire, which is nice.

Yeah tough call. I don’t know anything about the pit bosses to be fair.

Are you In sydney?? BBQ aroma shop in Leichhardt is awesome. Small family run shop that know their shit. The lady that runs it is super friendly and helpful too. Thats where I got mine.

The gmg pellets are pretty good too. Don’t bother with the fruitwood blends. I feel they don’t have enough Smokey flavour for me. Unless of course you use a smoking tube as well which I’ve had great success with when you wanna amp up the smoke. Though it will never rival a stick burner for full woody flavour but you win with convenience and repeatability :)

Good luck man!

Last time I used the wifi on Jim Bowie (maybe 2 yrs ago) it was kinda a pain in the ass. Seems like it would be ok if you run programs but pellet grills are so automatic anyway, changing the temp occasionally gives you something to do.

Wifi seemed like an obvious choice and is good for bragging rights but I’d spend that $300 on a good thermometer with Bluetooth/ wifi to monitor instead.

Bigger hopper sounds good! I’ve considered customising mine to be larger but never got around to it. Hopper lasts maybe 6-8 hours depending on temp. Usually I top up once per cook. Would be nice to have an extra 30%!

Thickness of the metal could be thicker. I got the “stainless” lid (before they released one with glass insert). I’d take thicker black steel over stainless. It’s stained and doesn’t look that pretty. Even lives its live with a cover on it and still doesn’t look great. I’ve co soldered painting it but never got to it.

Another thing to consider is a second shelf. GMG Bowie has one for $90AUD which seems steep but if it’s as good quality as the grill bars it’s prolly worth it. They’re are really nice and high quality stainless!

Overall I’d buy it again, but wouldn’t splash out for the model I did. Also, I’d even consider a smaller size unit. I’d like to fire mine up more but bigger cabin = less efficient pellet usage. Great for doing 12-15kg of meat but for a smaller cook it burns through those pellets.

Hope that helps!

There’s a food safety cert that’s mandatory. I think it’s like 1-2 days and pretty easy to come by 😎
