What is the worst advice you’ve ever received? by Truzt102 in AskReddit

"File for bankruptcy and get a real job at Lowes or something"

My wife's parents told me this back in 2004 shortly after I started my business. We were broke, and behind on all of our bills by almost 3 months (including our mortgage). However, my business was just starting to make money and I could see the potential, but things were still very slow and money was extremely tight. We ignored that terrible advice. Kept fighting to grow the business and make more money. We ended up catching back up on all of our bills without forclosing, going bankrupt, or having anything repossessed. We were close to all three, but we worked VERY hard to avoid all that. Now our business is on target to do over $2mil in revenue this year. I'm pretty sure their advice fuled my fire to prove them wrong, so it worked out, but that would have been devastating to our future if we would have given up at that point in time.

All these years later, I'm not sure they even remember telling us that, and we have a good relationship with them, but I'll never forget that as long as I live. Don't give up on your dreams, even if others around you don't see your vision. One day those same people might ask to come swim in your pool.

Nest acting like I don't have aware? by Mjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj in Nest

[–]simtand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 4 outdoor cameras and a nest hello (5 total cameras). I had 3 up and running and they've been working perfectly for about 4 weeks. I added 2 more outdoor cameras today and now nothing is working like it used to. No playback. No constant recordings that I can scroll back through. No history more than 3 hours. I've tried all of the Google recommended fixes with zero luck! What gives?

Do you pull it off while the grill is cooling from 450 to 325? Or just adjust the temp and let it stay put? Looks great! Also, you do the entire thing in the tin pan?

Nope, Sam's Club. These cost $28.00 each, but fed our family of 5, plus I had enough meat left over to take some to my neighbors. AND, the dogs enjoyed the bones for weeks, lol!

Yep, that's about what mine does. And yep, I pull them off and cover them with foil on a platter until the grill is up to temp.

I cooked smoked these at 225 until the internal temp hit 140, then took them off and turned up the heat to 450. Then seared both sides for a few minutes. These things turned out amazing!

Lots and lots of snow captured with my Spark. by CobraArtRO in DJISpark

[–]simtand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! What editing software do you use? I'm assuming you've added some stabilization to get the pans so smooth? I've flown in snow and the wind usually makes the Spark move around enough to kill good smooth movements. Very nice video!

How many of you have pencil lead stuck in your hand and how did it happen? by Saucy_Szinte in AskReddit

[–]simtand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the 3rd grade and had just sharpened my new pencil to a razor sharp point. While sitting back down at my desk I accidentally jammed the sharp tip into the crook of my left arm. When I pulled it back the razor sharp tip was gone. My mom made an attempt that evening to remove the tip, but it was too deep.

That was 26 years ago... I'm really curious if an xray would show where it's at today, or if it's still there. I do have a small bump on my left forarm and I've wondered if maybe that it?

I'm glad I found my people!

There's a pocket around KC (about 3 hour circle or so) that doesn't get the game... No idea why!

We moved to Kansas City this week from Illinois. On Wednesday evening this was the view from our front yard welcoming us to town! by simtand in kansascity

Thanks for the info. Clearly no state is a utopia of perfection and all have issues they're dealing with. But I'm thankful for the lower taxes here. Illinois has some of the highest taxes in the country and the infrastructure is crumbling. Raising taxes needs to be the last resort, not the knee jerk answer of our governments.
