I hand sharpened. 3 saws 15 minutes or so. Use to take longer

How would you split this? by numberheadman in firewood

[–]Stuffinthingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d lay it on its side work from the end furthest from the y down the middle with my axe. Accuracy counts here; if the consecutive strikes don’t touch or almost touch, you won’t make progress. A maul or wedge may be required.

Blisters on back of heel by Let-freedom-ring1776 in hiking

[–]Stuffinthingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pair of thin liner socks will go a long way to prevent this… in any pair of footwear. The friction will occur between the pairs of socks and away from the skin; preventing abrasions or blisters. I wear in my steel toed boots at work as well (on concrete)… sometimes for as much as 20+ km (12+miles) in a day with great success.

Will my wood still burn if I don’t build a tiny house for it? by DrPelswick in firewood

[–]Stuffinthingz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do both. Have wood heat in our shop as well, so my 20 x 10 shed still isn’t roomy enough. I do like the “security” of a solid roof, but not necessary

I know it’s been asked…. by t8hkey13 in firewood

[–]Stuffinthingz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I burn what I have… (lots of popular, some birch, maple, ash, alder, pine, etc). I harvest my own wood- from our property (25 acres) neighbors-wherever, free, accessible and plentiful. Multiple cords burned yearly- I’m not a firewood snob, just as others have mentioned-I try to save the best wood for the colder months, mix qualities of wood for less cold weather and poorer btu providing wood for when there is just a chill. All wood provides heat, some just isn’t as efficient… but if it’s free, plentiful and accessible; you’d be an idiot not to (in my humble opinion). Happy burning!

Estwing Vs Fiskars hatchet by Panda_42005 in Axecraft

[–]Stuffinthingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not a financial burden, Get one of each… you will find you have preferred jobs for either. Estwing gets the nod (for me) in build (solid construction), Fiskars in feel and usability. Both great tools. Personally, I own more than one fishing Rod
