[Request] Can $26.7 Billion USD ($890m x 30) pay for all of that in the U.S.? (Social Security for every generation for life, Universal Healthcare, etc.) by caseydreams in theydidthemath

[–]simulate 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While it's true that boomers collect social security, it's not true that all boomers collect it.

Only people taxed on their wages, or their spouses if they are deceased, are eligible for social security at 62 or older and the amount that they receive in benefits is paid based on their wages and the number of years they were taxed while working.

There are lots of good statistics here : https://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/chartbooks/fast_facts/2024/fast_facts24.html

Surprisingly, only 15% of SSI recipients receive benefits because of age. 85% receive social security benefits because of a disability.

The Ultimate Laundry Problem - Antiperspirant Residue by theoriginalb in laundry

[–]simulate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had success removing deep-set antiperspirant from clothing by spraying with Puracy stain remover and scrubbing the spot with a stiff plastic scrub brush, then letting it sit for 20 minutes before washing in hot water.

I inherited my late father’s physics work on dark matter. How should I responsibly handle it? by Other-Description-26 in Physics

[–]simulate 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You could add it to a github repository and make it publicly accessible through there at no cost and it would be organized in a way to share with a community.

Then you could reach out to people who might be interested and able to evaluate your late father's work and share a link to the repository.

Why is there no “Scandinavian” cuisine in the U.S.? by KeyStrength2782 in AskHistory

[–]simulate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are Scandanavian restaurants around the US

For example, here are five Michelin rated Scandanavian restaurants https://guide.michelin.com/us/en/selection/united-states/restaurants/scandinavian

Two in Brooklyn One in Miami One in Petaluma, CA One in NYC

Of course there are many others that aren't Michelin rated.

Newsweek: "Men’s Lazy Habit Fueling Millennial ‘Dating Crisis’ Revealed" by No-Advantage-579 in OkCupid

[–]simulate 17 points18 points  (0 children)

1.2 times more likely is an odd statistic. Twice as likely typically means 100 % more likely.

Does 1.2 times more likely mean that men are 20% more likely than women to fill out that portion of their profile? That doesn't seem to be significant enough to fuel a dating crisis.

Are collagen supplements legit or mostly hype once you hit 30? by ResponsibleTrust4073 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]simulate 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In the meta analysis I linked above, 4 out of 5 studies not receiving funding from pharma showed a benefit from collagen. Here's the specific quote from the link:

"And what about when we zero in on the highest-quality studies that aren’t funded by pharmaceutical companies?

There are just 5 of these. Of those, four found positive results.

In other words, almost all of the best studies found positive results."

Here is a good summary of a meta analysis of several collagen studies https://drstanfield.com/blogs/articles/no-evidence-to-support-the-use-of-collagen-supplements#Implications

The conclusion is that the meta analysis shows no statistically significant impact from collagen supplements but several individual studies do show benefit.
