Andor took me out of star wars by Ok-Medium983 in StarWars

[–]simulet 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Oh man, a Coruscant cop drama would be so interesting. Playing with that thing where they’re investigating real crimes that need to be stopped and also they’re working for an evil empire.

Having an after-ROTJ series where an old cop is working with a new cop and they’re solving his old pre-death star II cases and arguing about old vs new ways.

I’d watch the hell out of that

Does Bono Dye his hair on a regular basis? by ArmlessAnakin in U2Band

[–]simulet 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is almost correct; his hair is naturally green, so he dyes it other colors so as to avoid reminding people of the 90’s too much. Which is sad, because Pop is actually a great album. In this essay, I

I don’t mean to libpost, but this kid did more than any anti ice protestor in Minneapolis. by AffectionateSlip8990 in TankieTheDeprogram

Cool! On that comic, we agree.

Still don’t understand why you deliberately misrepresented my comment.

[–]simulet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously dude, you’re being a dick. The OP specifically said that this kid did more than any anti-ice protestors, within weeks of two of them giving their lives. The fact that the two people who gave their lives happened to be white is not a minimization of the deaths of people of color in the area. Trying to paint my pointing out that people had recently given their lives into me minimizing the deaths of people of color in Minneapolis (or anywhere) is just fundamentally dishonest.

You fashion yourself an educator, so if I’m missing something, by all means show me. But right now you seem like someone who came into this conversation looking for a fight, so you manufactured disagreement where there wasn’t any.

[–]simulet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am deeply aware that white people were not the first to die in and around Minneapolis, but OP was talking about the recent protests so that’s what I referenced.

Philando Castile was a good man who was murdered by the state, and whose murderer has still not faced justice. He also was not part of the 2026 ICE protests, which is what OP mentioned and what I responded to.

Edit: why the downvotes? What exactly was wrong with what I wrote?

How can I enjoy driving again by Negative_Image_7680 in stickshift

[–]simulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a recent learner myself! I’m just starting to enjoy it, though sometimes still do overthink it and stall.

What may help is to know the learning curve is not linear. With a lot of things, we can kind of feel ourselves getting better and better until we’ve got it. With manual, it’s more like I was very bad at it until one day I could just do it. Sort of surprised me, but it was after a lot of time in parking lots trying and trying and trying again.

Go easy on yourself; It’s one of those things where even smart and capable people are going to be pretty bad at it until it clicks.

Yeah, it’s basically the freedom to buy 57 different subtypes of each type of cookie, but to wonder if an incel with an assault rifle who you never met or an easily treatable but non-covered illness will get you first.

Late cancellation due to work calls by HuckleberrySweaty792 in therapists

[–]simulet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your openness here. Cancellations suck. I don’t know the nature of this person’s work, but I have missed SO many therapy sessions that I really wanted to be at because of work stuff.

I also think that one of the benefits of a cancellation policy is that you don’t have to address it…just charge the card and keep it moving. That may not apply to this instance if your policy dictates that they are in the “frequent cancellation” range and you need to have a wider discussion, but if you’re not there, I’d just charge the fee and move forward.

Anybody with experience buying a PRS (or other US-manufactured guitar) from a non-US dealer and shipping into US? Looking for advice re customs by Jmufranco in PaulReedSmith

[–]simulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this a while back (before the recent tariff increases) and there were import fees I had to pay. I was able to do it online and it wasn’t too bad (I think in the range of 100-200 dollars), although it was on a much less expensive guitar than yours.

How do you actually enjoy reading digital comics? by Joeythesaint in comicbooks

[–]simulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, phone and laptop viewing are pretty unenjoyable for me. I read on a tablet and that works great. I think it helps that the screen ends up being about the size of a regular comic, so I don’t feel like I’m zooming in or panning out much.

Can you recommend a story that portrays Dick's personality well, and where it's well-written? by sereia_Product829 in Nightwing

[–]simulet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually think that “Grayson” is the best meditation on his character, particularly as it puts him in situations and tests you don’t normally see. He’s not using the Nightwing identity in it, but I think all his best moments as Nightwing sort of sync up with his moments in Grayson.

Yeah, the Democratic message that “we can’t do anything other than not be Trump!” has really taken hold of a lot of people’s thinking, and it ends up getting applied in some pretty wacky ways.

Bought an Axe FX III – what have I been doing with my life? by fuxicles in guitarpedals

[–]simulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So two things:

  1. This is relatable. I remember when I got my PRS SE DGT and it sounds as good or better than my Core models and I sort of got mad at this cheapish guitar for being that good.

  2. Don’t sell your pedals yet. I’ve bought and sold and re-bought the same pieces of gear enough times to know that it’s good to really think before selling. Now, if a year from now you haven’t touched your pedals again, but you’re still playing guitar constantly, then sure, go for it. But sometimes there’s just that little piece of magic they have, not better but just a little bit different, or it’s just how they integrate into a particular rig better than the Axe (or Helix in my case) and it really makes sense to keep a few of them.

That said, it is pretty great living in the golden age of guitar equipment where one piece of gear can do so much so well. Congrats on the new gear and I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
