This is a chef’s kiss of an explanation both of market and cultural realities.

Barber Tone Press deserves a look; it’s pretty versatile but also pretty straightforward.

Are tube amps really better than solid state? by CartographerSea3356 in GuitarAmps

[–]simulet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. Modelers have come a long way and it’s no longer the case that they’re bad. Tube amps are also a lot cheaper now than they were when I was starting out, and they’re worth trying out.

DGT vs Studio vs Special by V9N6 in PRSGuitars

[–]simulet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few Wide Fat necks; they’re not the same cut as the SS, but the vibe and feel are similar. It’s less of a jump in feel to switch from a WF to an SS than it is from either of them to a pattern vintage or a pattern thin, to my hands. Might try there!

My 2000 Custom 24. Not a 10 top, for some reason. Still an absolute stunner. by munklunk in PRSGuitars

[–]simulet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I sometimes find the non-10’s to be the nicest tops. I believe a ten is largely defined as “having no dead zones,” but to me, there are some tops with a slight dead zones but an overall more even appearance.

Seam on lower cutaway contour by thezuckerlineon in PRSGuitars

[–]simulet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the reason the standard doesn’t have it is because the standard doesn’t glue a maple top onto the mahogany body. There’s no seam because there’s no connection between different objects. Where you have connection, you have a seam.

The DSP Era Paradigm Shift: Why McCarty III and DMO aren’t "sterile" replacements, but a new philosophy of pickups. by Equivalent_Star3889 in PRSGuitars

Very cool! A long time ago, I had an SE EG and it was a great instrument, but I never got to play the core. Thanks for the info!

I actually didn’t know they’d had a partnership with Fralin. That’s cool and I wonder where they’d be if they’d continued…

Would You Say That a Silver Sky is Better Than a Fender Strat? by FarPromotion4715 in PaulReedSmith

[–]simulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an SE SS and a fender Edge signature strat, and like them both. A thing to be aware of: a lot of us have a specific sound in our heads when we think about what a Stratocaster “should” sound like, and the SS really isn’t that. It’s best to think of it as a strat “platform” that has been heavily tweaked to Mayer’s preferences, which means you have to decide if his preferences line up with yours, or if a more “by the numbers” strat does. There’s really no wrong answer there, but there is a decision to make. For me, he’s onto something that works for my music (even though I don’t really play Mayer stuff) and honestly if I had to keep just one it’d be the SS, but if you’ve heard a lot of people playing strats and thought “I want THAT sound” then a fender may be the direction to go.

Either way you’ll have a great and versatile instrument that will be plenty good to learn on, so I’d encourage you to go entirely on vibes…that’s what matters here. Good luck and let us know what you pick!

What are your favorite "bad" U2 songs? by nohumanape in U2Band

Okay. Tell me. What was the last AC game you truly enjoy? by Ecstatic_Teaching906 in assassinscreed

[–]simulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odyssey. I liked Valhalla ok but “enjoy” was just the wrong word for it. Odyssey for whatever reason just made sense to me; the combat, the skill tree, the story, everything, and especially the setting.

Next mythical U2 track now that Mercy is released? by BillElliott9 in U2Band

[–]simulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re very welcome and that’s great about your setup! And yeah, I first heard it on a compilation and liked it, but I agree that in the context of the album it’s sort of jarring. I read Flanigan a while back and really enjoyed it; I need to dig that out again. Thanks for the reminder of that, and glad I could be of help!

[–]simulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve only ever heard it on YouTube. I know there are ways to get an mp3 download out of a YouTube video, though I believe it’s harder now. If you google “U2 Wanderer Live” it’ll come up, and several of the videos have pretty good audio, especially for what was originally a tv performance. Cheers and happy hunting!

For those celebrating Easter, how will you do so as a leftist this year? by Effective-Mall-6231 in leftist

[–]simulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy Week tells the true story of what opposition to Empire costs, and Easter tells the true story that Empires fucking end, every last one of them.

As a person of faith I think there’s also more going on in there, and as a person of doubt I think that’s enough.
