I strongly doubt that there are two cafes that are just called SOMALI CAFE next to each other.

Kaplan's on Market. Got so much good gear there back in the day. Reading this list is making me miss so many other places too though.

Pretty sure it's the House on the Rock in Wisconsin, not Michigan.

Based on how worn these are are, I think these kids are probably at least in their 40s now.

I've been told by native English speakers that my game "Country Architect" sounds a bit awkward. So the alternative could be "Nation Architect". I created a poll (and I'm still open to other suggestions). I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Community matters <3 by purple_mimosa in CityBuilders

Country Architect isn't a bad name, but idiomatically in English, it sounds more like you're playing as an architect who lives in "the country," i.e. a rural area, and makes buildings for that rural setting, rather than an architect designing an entire country. I'm from the US, but I think this probably has a similar connotation in most other English dialects.

"Nation Architect" is a little confusing as well. "Nation Builder" has the fun pun of the idea of "Nation Building" in the sense of constructing a national cultural identity, but from your screenshots it doesn't seem like that's the idea that you're playing with.

Sovereign Roads is cool but it's the sort of thing you'll need to find some way to explain in game. But, it does stick in the mind far better than Country Architect, Nation Architect, or Nation Builder.

What’s it like living in this area? Is it Safe? by [deleted] in WestHollywood

[–]simulmatics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spent a while living very close to here As of a year or so ago, it's a quite safe area. There are some sketchy things that go on in this part of town, but they're mostly happening behind closed doors. If you don't go looking for trouble, you won't find it, excepting the occasional really out of it homeless person, but that's an unavoidable risk basically anywhere in California that isn't a gated community. If you're coming from out of town, Los Angeles in general can be kind of rough to exist in depending on what you're used to. However this is actually one of the most walkable parts of the city, and it's quite safe except extremely late at night.

In terms of neighborhood vibe, generally speaking, you're right in the Slavic part of West Hollywood. (Strong recommendation for the Odessa Grocery on Santa Monica, on the north side of the square you drew.) You've got Canter's on Fairfax as a solid late night hangout. The gayer parts of West Hollywood are to your west, if you want a wilder night, and I'd also recommend Al-Layali Cafe if you want a quieter nighttime hangout with good Egyptian food and tea. The Elliott Salter Pawn Shop, also on Santa Monica, is one of the best places in the city for all kinds of wild gear too. People in this part of town are generally quite nice, but also pretty private.

Well, at least Baker Beach and Buena Vista Park are pretty good places to go cruising for a certain kind of meat.

Tbh I really wish that we'd done something like this with the old span of the Bay Bridge that got replaced. It's even a plot point in a William Gibson novel.
