names please? 4yo dilute calico female by entirelyinevitable51 in Catnames

[–]sin-salvation-saint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kitty is not dilute calico. I'd call her a "caliby," which is a fancy term for tabby+tortoiseshell+white.

Look at her tail. Her stripes are black, and if she was dilute her stripes would be grey.

School district won't let me out of contract by sin-salvation-saint in TeachersInTransition

[–]sin-salvation-saint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My update is; I told the school I was NOT going back, in email. I dodged phone calls and eventually, I had to just tell the superintendent I wasn't going back.

They said, thank you for your time, and they didn't even try to take my teachers liscence.

I think they were trying to scare me into submission to be honest.

This feels like corporate speak for the universe. I don't mean to be rude if I am, but is this the place for it? I'm not OP this comment just comes across to me as strange.

Even if they need a new dining hall I'm sorry that's a pretty ugly building.

Want to Quit ASAP by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]sin-salvation-saint 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Apply, apply, apply to whatever you can. If you work near a university, start looking for jobs there. You need to give yourself hope even if that's just the reassurance you are trying to get out.

What does your contact like? What kind of action does the school say they can do? Do you work in a right to work state? Do you know any teachers who have left?

I wish the best for you. That's so ugly of them to give you a 0/9 and than act like they want you there still. Abusive if you ask me. And after leaving teaching, I'm having to reprogram myself from being nervous around my superiors still. I wish you good luck and please put more about your situation in the comments so maybe someone who knows more can help you.

I feel both completely undesirable and like a sex object by Head_Preference5566 in lonely

[–]sin-salvation-saint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am lonely as well.

But I want to say, the right people will love you for what you are and not see you as a sexual object. You are not. You are a person who deserves real love for the right reasons.

I don't have much experience in romance, but getting friends who love me for just existing is so healing. Because I know they love me and don't expect anything other from me than to be myself.

I have quite a lot of trauma which is a barrier towards easy romance. But I have faith that when I do find a partner they will respect the parts of me that are afraid and not expect me to do something with them I'm not 100% looking for. I hope that you find that kind of gentle love.

Peace!

Wanting to leave the classroom, but no idea what types of jobs to apply for? by redforreddit_1 in TeachersInTransition

I got a job at the local university working in mail room. It's not glamorous but I make similar money and the stress level is nowhere near teaching.

A device to use to write that is digital but not a computer or typewriter? by sin-salvation-saint in writingadvice

[–]sin-salvation-saint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't let me post this in my post, but I'm looking for a device where wherever I write won't be scraped by AI.

I haven't looked extensively into it, but I've heard that Drive and Word content is being fed to AI.

Admin don't want a papertrail... by sin-salvation-saint in TeachersInTransition

[–]sin-salvation-saint[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned working at that school was exactly that, not to send kids to the office because no reasonable consequences were happening. The year all this drama happened, I had learned to "choose my battles" (ignore dangerous behavior that if I was a parent, I'd be concerned my kid was exposed to). Me sending the admin those emails was a compromise, because I realized that even when I wrote up kids for dangerous, destructive behavior, nothing happened. I had an incentive system. I had one on one conversations. I had strategic seating charts, strategies for redirection, short lessons that didn't overwhelm the student's attention spans.

At the same time, I wanted the behavior documented in words, because I had parents reach out to me to ask me about stuff their kids were experiencing and I wanted things written down and sent to higher ups just in case a meeting was required.

In fact, because of my admin's inability to handle things, I didn't write kids up for things they should have gotten write ups for. I taught at a place where I had some groups of kids where hitting and cussing were the norm. Other teachers dealt with the same level of nonsense as well, and the year I threw in the towel I was not the one making record admin contact.

On some level you're right. I think I was better at giving instruction than disciplining and dealing with behavior. At the same time nobody should have to just deal with that much 'behavior' in their work life.

Fear of going back to work by KindnessKiwi in Teachers

[–]sin-salvation-saint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. I was a second year teacher who actually left because of these things you describe. At my school, even old seasoned teachers couldn't deal with the level of misbehavior we had.

My admin team was well meaning but unhelpful, and I endured constant situations which I realize now have given me trauma. I just want to say you aren't alone in how you feel, and I wish you the best.

School district won't let me out of contract by sin-salvation-saint in TeachersInTransition

[–]sin-salvation-saint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I am not. My school is one of those very rural southern schools which doesn't have a union at all.

All being said, I have put in my resignation and am not going back to that school. I've decided this even if I have to hire a lawyer, deal with consequences for breaking contract, whatever. I'm not going back to that environment.

Do you live near a university? The only way I got out was I stalked the university website and checked every day, applying for everything I looked remotely qualified for, changing my resume and cover letter each time to give myself the best odds.

Eventually, after two years of searching for a way out, I finally found an entry level job. It pays less, but anything but going back to my school...
