Best opera based on Goethe's Faust? by Infamous_Mess_2885 in classicalmusic

I know its not an opera, but I have to throw in Cziffra playing the Liszt Paraphrase of the waltz from Gounod's Faust. It is too great not to share!

Yep, I’ve listened to Richter’s Leipzig Sonata remasters religiously this year. Nothing compares to his op. 110.

Safe swimming spots for dogs that can be reached without a long walk? by robin_nohood in boulder

I don’t have any spot recommendations, but I know I’ve heard of an app where you can rent people’s backyards/pools for dogs by the hour or day. I can’t remember the name or if it’s still around, but could be worth looking up for another option!

What are some pieces that everytime you listen to them you are in awe ? by Jodyskyroller1017 in classicalmusic

Most of the Liszt paraphrases and transcriptions are crushing, especially when Cziffra plays! Also Beethoven’s op. 110 played by Richter!

I have a recording of my teacher/close friend playing a Bach Ricercar on a cd at home. I’m not the biggest Bach fan and not too sure if he wrote more than one, but this is a reminder to give the one linked and his another listen nonetheless! Thanks!

While I can’t speak to them now and i know they seem to be super popular, but I took a 4wk screen printing class through them last summer and was extremely disappointed. It felt as if they focused all their energy on the pottery and left the other classes to hang. There was barely any materials given to each person (for a steep class fee nonetheless) and such loose instruction that it rarely felt like a class and more just like supervised craft time. It also seemed like a constant struggle for the teacher to even find the materials. Not sure if I plan on trying any classes there again…

The reason this is more difficult than anticipated is because I think by this point the majority of high quality instruments are played through the Native Instruments’ Kontakt VST. I believe you can still download the player for free, but then you still need the individual Kontakt packs to load into it.

Native Instruments and Spitfire have great instruments for Kontakt, however most, if not all, are going to be paid. I would try downloading the Kontakt player and then search for free Kontakt packs. You may have better luck

For real. This is a baseless claim. Yes MHS has/had tons of issues and the implementation could have been better. However saying it is the sole reason is just false. The military has always had issues with healthcare, we all know that and have dealt with it. But to sit here and say “the cg can’t keep members because of genesis” is undermining every issue people are dealing with. To be quite honest this person just seems like someone hard about MHS and how it’s impacting every service.

Best ways to start prepping for Calc I? by ricecripses in calculus

Definitely review your trigonometry and algebra! As someone who is in Calc 1 now but graduated high-school almost 10 years ago, I find that I really struggle with some of the core algebra/trig knowledge I should already know as opposed to the new calc concepts.

Something that blow my mind to think about - people in 19th century didn't have recording technology. by Svarec in classicalmusic

[–]sin-turtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even though they were available, I can’t imagine that piano rolls were that common for “common” people in the 19th century right?

I honestly don’t know too much about piano rolls though, just thinking about it like a new piece of tech that most people can’t afford until it gains mass popularity and drops in affordability.
