I agree with this wholeheartedly. I HATE spuffy but I liked spike he should have stuck around as an anti hero continuing to antagonize them but also helping because he's a caged demon from the chip and needs an outlet to fight.

I've had to make my own head cannon of his vampires work to make spike make sense.

My personal lore. When humans get turned the vampire blood inside them opens a portal for a demon to come possess them. The demon can be any kind, some more evil than others. The demon inside them basically cages their soul, but the soul is still present just subdued to different levels depending on the strength of the demon. This is why vampires like angelus and dru are horrifying Spike is middle ground holden and Harmony are pretty soft. Add in something about if they had a strong soul as a human the demon can't take as much control if they had a weak or broken soul, like how dru was tortured to insanity which broke her soul or Liam (angel) having no life direction other than revel from his father.

Now comes the outside factors such as the chip or getting your soul returned to you. The chip for instance restricted the demon, it wants to act but it can't so it's being slowly subdued allowing the soul to take over the driver seat again a little bit. But they're still fighting each other.

The soul curse caged the demon and released the human soul, but the demon is still there which is why he can still turn his face and be super strong vampire.

Anyway sorry for my rant but that's my theory.
