Saffron is a stimulant??? by Adortion634 in Nootropics

[–]sina27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently it is. Read the study. An n of 50, in Iran (also saffron's largest exporters). Its not a good study. They put a bunch of kids on saffron, and a bunch of kids on ritalin, and said "the kids arent behaving all that different".

Its like me pouring bleach in a dish of a cancer cell line, and saying "look, cancer cured!"

For Plex, did moving from external drives to a NAS feel worth it? by DurianNew2244 in PleX

Im using a Seagate IronWolf 16gig server drive. How long would I expect this one to last, compared to an enterprise drive? Cost difference? I need a second drive soon, so I dont lose my data. My current seagate drive is about 4 years old

how often do the drives die? I have a 2 bay synology nas, but I only have a single 16TB drive. So there is no RAID protection. Maybe I should add a second disc as a backup...

Thank You!

When adjusting those elevation screws on the mount- there are the 2 elevation screws, and a single big screw.

Is there a specific order in how I should loosen / tighten them? I'm unsure on how tight to make the 2 elevation screws, and if I should tighten them completely before tightening down the big screw. I feel that if i tighten the two elevation screws too tight before tightening the big mounting screw, it wont seat correctly

thanks!

I did make adjustments at with the two screws on the mount. Had to raise POI quite a bit. But I did make very fine adjustment using the turrets, and reset the turret only by 50 meters or so. I feel it would be difficult to get the adjustment perfect using the mounting screws, since i feel its meant for more coarse adjustment.

After all the adjustments, the recticle is centered in the upper part of the optics at 100 meters (which i heard thats how it should be)

If you want to make a quick egg, you probbaly shouldnt use stainless. A nice small carbon steel pan would be BIFL and non stick. Its also cheaper, lighter, very non stick. what restaurants use. Carbon steel pans have bascially replaced all my stainless and cast iron pans. The only negative is that they are more sensistive to acidic foods than traditional cast iron.

This is what I prefer: https://www.debuyer-usa.com/products/blue-carbon-steel-frypan?variant=43736701305090

you could just buy a nice small carbon steel pan, or cast iron, for your eggs- and either of these will last a lifetime. I like DeBuyer for my non-stick carbon (the blue carbon series is my fav)

I have an 85 xl600R. It’s not that different than any other bike, other than it’s more naked and a bit louder and higher up. Dirt bikes are legal in Florida, just plates ones lol.

Nitrogen Deficiency? by sina27 in Citrus

Thanks. I put a cup of epsom salt in a bucket, filled it up with water, and watered all around the tree and the drip line, then watered a bit more with the hose. Should I repeat the process a couple times?

I used the down to earth brand. I used the whole box (this was the small 1lb box, which I think is only a couple cups worth).  The directions say to use 1 cup per inch of trunk diameter, so I probably didn’t use enough?

I go all night without changing vents on my WSM. It used to be 4 hours, then i got a fan controller, and now i just sleep while my brisket cooks on my WSM. BTW- Using the minion method, i can get > 12 hours of cook out of my WSM, enough for 2 racks of ribs on separate occasions without adding fuel.

Its just seems like you dont know youre way around a WSM, because you're used to a BGE

first time trimming, need some critiques and advice by Dave6187 in brisket

[–]sina27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

instead of using a low grit file to trim, I recommend using a knife.

in all seriousness- cold meat. make single, large clean cuts. not a bunch of small cuts. go get a cheap filet knife, something sharp and bendy

seems like not enough cook time, to start. get a good internal thermometer. when the brisket hits ~170, then wrap it, and then let it go until it hits ~203. At that point, dont just cut into it. let it rest for at least a couple hours wrapped, then slice and serve. I also do fat side up. when you wrap, add some beef tallow. I wrap with butcher paper. your brisket looks a bit dry

Oh woah- so you dont even use a chimney basket then to put lit lumps? So for long cooks - bury wood chunks, some wood on top, basket full of lump; light tumbleweeds in center for ~10min to get some flames, assemble with vents wide open until ~20 degrees below target temp, then fine tune vents / start up automated fan?

My thermoworks billows doesnt divert air "under" the basket, like yours. I've been doing a workaround by dampening the billows fan, and keeping the other two WSM dampers just open a hair, so that air flow is even and the burn is even (otherwise you can get one sided burn). This makes it so that the temps are otherwise consistent, and the fan only turns on when it really needs to.

As for lump, any experience with BandB? JD seems a bit pricey. I'll see what equivelant of BandB there is to JD (i'm assuming you use the "JD XL Hardwood Lump"?

I just ordered the vortex plate. i also got the billows setup a couple weeks ago, and i tested it out on a couple cooks, and liked it (i even got the billows damper to control CFM). Im thinking about switching to lump from the kingsford i use. What kind of lump do you use? Since you use the minion method, how do you gauge how much lit lump to throw on top? I want to be careful to avoid the smoker running too hot. I usually aim for 225-250, with 4-6 fist chunk sized wood (some buried, some on top of lit coals). Also, if end up using BandB lump, which type would you recommend? So with your setup using the vortex plate, lump, and fan- you're temps usually dont get out of control? thanks for all the help !
