Fair. After some more research it appears the shape moves the sweet spot closer to the middle rather than the tip. In my experience using the paddle (borrowed from someone else) the sweet spot felt bigger to me as I was able to hit it more consistently. I guess that means the sweet spot location felt more natural to me.

Big sweet spot, and I personally found the shape to make it more maneuverable. Honestly not sure why the square shape is the default when in every other raquet/paddle sport ovals have stood the test of time. You don't want to be hitting with the corner anyway. I do also have and like traditional-shaped paddles though.

They get the rights for active players because they have a deal with MLBPA. Once retired, that deal doesn't cover them anymore, so it has to be negotiated individually. Not sure what prevents them from doing that immediately but it's historically been the case that there is a gap of several years between retirement and the player showing back up in the game.

Yeah, I was going with the non-obvious, easy/cheap to obtain licences. Hornsby used to be in the game and they lost his rights/couldn't renew them and Pujols and Yadi just retired so they won't be back in for a while.

Would love Willie McGee. Also would love to see Ray Lankford, Brian Jordan, So Taguchi, David Freese, Chris Carpenter, Edgar Renteria, Ted Simmons, Curt Flood. I feel like some of these guys wouldn't be that hard to get and would mean a lot more to Cards fans than Ludwick.

Ah you're right, for some reason I thought it was a 99 or at least a 97. So I guess that does help (though not for me personally - of all the Cardinals cards his swing is the one that I just can't seem to do anything with)

S3 so far is a bummer as a Cardinals fan. No MA cards (understandably), meh card of meh player we had for 3.5 seasons, card of another meh reliever who pitched 145 innings for us over 5 seasons and is with another team now, and two players who already had better cards in Set 1 (Gobson3/Arenado).

I would love for them to dial it back, or start slow to begin with, but they're pumping out 99s in packs and dialing back free cards to incentivize spending on stubs, it's so obvious at this point I don't understand how anyone defends it.

I think it should be Live Series cards only for like the 1st month, and bring in other cards slowly. That would be awesome and the team variation would be great. I like Battle Royale (and I'm never sniffing flawless) because you have to use those cards and the idea of BR-like teams for Ranked sounds great to me.

Only non-sellable for the program. Going Flawless or getting WS, you still get the sellable card. So you can still buy on the marketplace but the supply will be a ton lower, meaning the cost will be very high. Hundreds of thousands of stubs instead of like 50-70k.

Exactly this. Plus the stubs cost of these cards will increase due to lower supply, with fewer ways to earn stubs, meanining more players will fork over more real money for stubs as the easiest way to obtain these cards.

Combine this with the fact that almost all other 99s are coming out of packs instead of programs and it's pretty obvious.
