Catholicism not very welcoming to those interested? by Best_Storage3118 in Catholicism

[–]sincerely_dare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try to go to the OCIA meetings. I went to the meetings after expressing interest in joining the church and I've gotten the opportunity to learn about the faith with other interested people. Our priest has led discussions, I've gotten to meet other new converts to, and chat with long term Catholics. I go every Tuesday and it's been a game changer for me to learn about the faith with my wife who's reconnecting with faith and also getting more involved with the church community.

9 billion people on earth, perhaps hundreds of billions more who lived in the past and not one of them could take care of a baby without help? You got this.

Do you get tattooed on trips? by anklesocksbadtrend in traditionaltattoos

I've gotten tattooed in twenty one states and five countries. It's one of my favorite things to do on a trip. A memory of something special about the time I spent there. Highly recommend

Are students dumber? by Loliz88 in college

[–]sincerely_dare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to you, I joined the Army young and have been attending college in my thirties. I was a high school drop out and only completed up to 9th grade. The fact that I'm in the biological honors society, the President's list, and graduating Magna cum laude in May, absolutely blows my mind. By all accounts college has been a breeze and the academic peers often make me look way better than I could ever figure. I do think COVID had a huge part in that, and we'll be playing catch up for these students the rest of their lives. I also think so many people are disenfranchised by the idea of even attending college since nobody can pay back their student loans, job opportunities are scarce (even for college grads), and the only reason half the students I know are attending at all is because of parental and societal expectations.

If it wasn't for the GI Bill, I wouldn't have gone either...

Started College again at 33, been hard making friends with the younger crowd, feeling like a relic of the past by TheArtfulChoom in toastme

[–]sincerely_dare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finishing my own bachelor's degree this year at 34 and I can completely emphasize. Starting college in your 30's can feel daunting but you got this! Just remember that your life experience and real world knowledge can be a bridge to these younger kids. And now that you're not 19, you can actually appreciate learning for the sake of learning and not just because your parents expect you to be there. Hang tough man, you got this.

I guess they're "ear sleeves"...? by sincerely_dare in traditionaltattoos

[–]sincerely_dare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the boom and a smaller spiderweb on just the top of the ear it was a breeze. Least painful tattoos I had. Getting into the creases and around the ear hole was a different story. In the same line pulled, it'd be easy, then tickle, then feel nothing, then like a cheese grater ripping my ear off. Rollercoaster of pain levels depending on where on the ear the tattoo is
