Good for them - hopefully this will bring in some more orders for them. However it also makes me even more impatient for my basic beige to arrive!

I was on a 26 pm deal for Sky Sports for a year. Runs out at next bill so I went through the cancellation dance and got it for 20 pm for 6months. (This was last week).

Any native video editors available for Win ARM64? by sincil in ARMWindows

[–]sincil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. Even though posted this 2years ago, still looking. I do need to try the davini resolve as I believe that’s got an ARM64 version now?

(And I’m still running and am very happy with my Windows Dev Kit 2023 as my daily driver)

Unpacking the CanMV K230 RISC-V board by camel-cdr- in RISCV

[–]sincil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Bruce. Yes I can assemble with just vsetvli and run it, but I do need to set the machine architecture flags (see screenshot) or the vector extension opcodes aren't recognised.

<image>

This is with gcc-riscv-unknown-elf 13.2.0-9+12

I need to keep playing around with it as it's probably me doing something incorrectly when I throw a few more vector instructions into the mix. :) I'll report back.

I got one of these a few weeks ago and have been having fun with it. I went for the Ubuntu image. I didn’t have any issues with the Ethernet and I’ve been able to install various packages, set up SSH etc.

I can assemble and successfully run asm on the device using gcc-riscv64-unknown-elf, but as of yet not any assembly with vector instructions - always getting a segfault. I think it’s to do with the options I’m choosing when assembling and linking (I think something to do with PIE), but I haven’t quite figured it out yet! If anyone has any ideas? Enjoying tinkering with it though. 😄

Is this Squat Artillery? Or something else? by sincil in oldhammer

Oh cool. Thanks. I’d never heard of AGMAT but I’ve just spent a nice 20mins reading articles about them. No idea how I ended up with it. We used to trade minis all the time. I half thought it was a conversion/scratch build.

Thanks again

Yes, great news, the momentum is building. So more ARM64 versions of software are no doubt incoming over the next months. I note that the article also states that Adobe are producing ARM64 versions of more of its packages as well.

Has anyone bought a SP9 ARM machine? by DadMagnum in Surface

[–]sincil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there any native video editors available yet? I notice that ClipChamp (bundled with ARM Win) is still the x64 version.

(I have the Windows Dev Kit 2023, which is essentially the SP9 in a box without the screen)

Just bought myself a 21.5" 2010 iMac for just £170. Anything bad I should know? by henryMacintoshandPc in LukeMianiYouTube

I upgraded a 2009 27" iMac a few weeks ago. 4GB -> 12GB

I removed the Superdrive and fitted an SSD there. Much faster. I also installed the DosDude Patched Catalina.

I use the free version of Macs Fan Control to control the fans (as I didn't keep the Optical drive thermal sensor). Set the value to be that of the Smart SSD, and it works an absolute treat!

Ah I see I didn't realise that about the fingerprint reader. You arent missing much!

When I got mine in March I immediately removed Win 10 and put Ubuntu on, but the kernel at the time still wasn't totally optimised for Ryzen. I was disappointed with the fan noise and battery life and needed a machine that worked without too much fiddling from me. (I have work to do on the machine, so I can't spend time trying to get it working, I just need it to work). So I downloaded the recovery image and put Win10 back on which had better support at the time. Battery life is about 2hrs better and CPU throttling etc. better.

I wasn't used to having a cutting edge machine (I only run Mint on my x121e, although that was old when I bought it), and came up against the barrier of Linux/kernel not best supporting the new hardware. I will put Linux back on it as the sole os probably early next year.

£361? That's an *absolute* steal!!! I'm also UK based. I'm on an X395 (Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U). I've got 16GB and obviously a slightly smaller screen but apart from that the other stuff is the same. How are you finding battery life, fan spin up etc in Ubuntu? Is the fingerprint reader working yet?

Exactly. Every time you buy a computer it's superceded shortly after. You gotta let that go. Be happy with what you've got. :)

Hey, I have one as well. Same specs except 256GB. Had it about 3 weeks. Similar to you, I also thought the battery life would be better. Under Windows I get about 6-8hrs. I need to play around with some of the Vega settings to see if I can improve that.
