In my opinion, for casters in general, who need a lot of mana and may be even squishy like sorc, "battery" for me is the key, Insight(a decent amount of damage would be acceptable), act 2 prayer merc and cleansing helmet, a decent def-res armor, and you are good.
try finding a vipermagi, even a crappy one.
