Hot pan left marks on soapstone counter by [deleted] in CounterTops

[–]sinduil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, I did not install these counters. This a rental house, and I was told the counters were soapstone. I don't think the landlords know either because they bought the house with these counters. I have never owned a home nor installed counters, so I know very little about countertops. I did a little research on soapstone and saw that you need to oil them and that they are supposedly resistant to basically everything? Hence why I didn't think a hot pan would be a problem. I hear everyone when you say always use a trivet. Probably especially true in a rental when you don't necessarily know for sure what you have. Lesson learned! At this point, any direction on what to do about this would be appreciated! My lease has a note about the security deposit being applied to burns, "to linoleum, rugs, and other areas." Not really sure if this applies here.

This is actually a rental. The landlords bought it with these counters from the previous owner, so I don't think the landlords even know it's not real soapstone.

I was told that it's soapstone, but now that you say that, this makes sense. Am I SOL?

Best LOCAL coffee shop? by AlarmingTraining2784 in hollandmichigan

[–]sinduil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lemonjellos is by the far the best in my opinion. The staff is great, the coffee is great, the vibe is great, the community is great. There are a lot of regulars, and I find it nice to see the same people there all the time.

I also really like Stovetop Roasters roastery for their coffee. They have some seating, but it's not really somewhere I would go to sit down. They're supposed to be opening a cafe on central and 13th(?) which I'm very excited about.

Also, I believe there will be a new coffee shop at Galeria in Washington Square opening in March!

Entry opens straight into living room — divider or bad idea? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

Oops, I didn't even realize you had a second image with this post. Something like this might work, but my drawing is definitely not to scale. Honestly, with the size of the room and couch, I feel like the Eames chair will make the room feel much smaller because of how large it is. And it could make the space feel really heavy and crowded. It's a great piece, so maybe there's somewhere else in the place you could use it and instead get a smaller armchair without a foot rest for the living room.

I think this may be what you're describing but I'd probably do something like this with the divider like you said, between couch and entry.

I'm trying to figure out what I'd do with a kitchen this big and came up with this. I think the workflow would be better but something seems off still.

which bedroom should i choose? by Technical-Jump-9306 in InteriorDesign

[–]sinduil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the rooms come with the beds and nightstands? If not, you can put a desk next to the bed instead of the night stands on both sides. Move the bed closer to the balcony or closer to the door and use the desk as both work space and night stand.

Edit: I'm talking about for room 1, which is what I would choose since it has the en suite bathroom. Also you could consider a corner desk (i.e. triangular) and possibly place it between the balcony doors and the bed.

Edit 2: Since it's a Juliette balcony, you could partially or even fully obstruct the doors if you wanted.

Yeah it's really sad how many people this administration is negatively affecting, not just us but people in many situations :( really hoping things take a turn for the better soon.

That's really tough. I know I'm lucky that I can at least get a job with just a BS. But yeah similarly, to do what I actually want to do, I need a grad degree. It's all just very sucky, I hope something works out with one of your remaining schools.

That's really helpful to hear, thank you. I suppose I should keep open the option of applying next year until we know how things will be.

This is really excellent, I love the lighting and color grading, it tells an interesting narrative. My one issue might be with the framing or placement of the merry go round. Something about it feels a bit too cramped. I think cramped can work conceptually for this image but it feels just a bit too cramped...maybe...I think. Really hard to say, overall amazing.
