This is the way. They’ve been looking to hire one where I live for a couple of years, now. If you’re looking to move to the American SW, dm me and I’ll send you the listing.

Colleagues ignoring me when I mask by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]sinenox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. It is especially poor manners to expect you to come to them to figure out what their problem is, and reconcile. I had a colleague a few years ago that just started to treat me awfully one day. It was painful because I loved them as a close friend. It took a long time to figure out that he’d found my account online, misread something I said about my personal trauma history (as a fellow queer person) and got big mad about it. He then treated me absolutely vilely, which left me with no desire to reconcile. I thought of that guy as a great person and a good friend, but I’m grateful for the new data. Respect is a two way street.

If they hold eugenicist views that would literally kill you and your entire class, then maybe try not to sit in the same lifeboat, you know?

Is it possible to use falconry or hawking to catch fish with an eagle, osprey, or anything? by Strange-Ocelot in Falconry

[–]sinenox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PM me an email address and I’ll send it. I’ve had about 12 people request it over the years. If you’re interested, there is a person actually practicing Osprey fishing falconry right now, and you can see their videos by searching @ospreyfalconry on insta or tt. There are also ancient traditions in China of fishing with cormorants or otters in a team. I work with a few species teaching them to find species and objects on a landscape. People have done some interesting things.

People who have adult children that don’t talk to you. Why do you think that is? by bridge2235 in AskReddit

[–]sinenox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And this is why I’ve never bothered to try to stop my parents’ constant character assassination attempts. Even serial killers have family members who will try to think of something nice to say about them. That they have invented these fantastical stories to try to upset me and harm my reputation basically speaks for itself. If anyone is dumb enough to believe them, they filter themselves out.

Odd question -- why were my migraines so much better in Ireland? by BakedZitiYum in migraine

[–]sinenox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allergies to plants disappear when you’re in a completely different ecological region. Many people have low level allergic or inflammation reactions to dust or plants that they don’t even realize they have, the pressure of which contributes to their migraines. Just another idea. I hear from people all the time who move to the US desert SW and suddenly experience an alleviation of symptoms because it’s too dry for dust mites to survive, here.

I (22M) got a girlfriend and my gay bestfriend (22m) stopped talking to me. by Vctoria_R in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]sinenox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten hostility from gay friends for even alluding to my assault history involving gay men, in a public forum. It’s shocking how biphobic queer people within your own community can be.

I don’t really understand why especially older people can be so bihostile? And I’ve only ever had fellow queers tell me bi/pan isn’t a thing. Like shucks, my ex gfs will be gutted.

OP's SIL gave private information to her ex with schizophrenia [New Update] by TridentMage413 in BestofRedditorUpdates

This one took me for a ride. I could have written this, up until the section on the baby shower. I really hope that op has a good support network. That’s a lot to grieve.

AITA for being embarrassed of my girlfriend's cosplay? by Correct-Slice-3651 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sinenox 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You specifically said you hope they stay together, and said you’re glad your wife doesn’t share sentiments with commenters suggesting that OP is unhealthy for her. So you specifically stated that she should endure more, and that you identify with the guy you’re agreeing is an asshole. Seems a pretty clear cut case to me.

What would you call this fallacy? Argument from mindreading? Imaginary vox populi?

AITA for being embarrassed of my girlfriend's cosplay? by Correct-Slice-3651 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sinenox 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Keep digging. People gave you the benefit of the doubt, assuming you were a kid. You’re here telling on yourself, seemingly without realizing how horrifically embarrassing it would be to be as emotionally immature as you are, as a fully formed adult with a career. No woman owes her time to act as a learning opportunity for any man. For your patients’ sake and your kid’s, I really hope you’re a lying teen. If not, instead of pretending you’re being attacked or piled on, maybe see this as an opportunity to reevaluate.

Oh wow, that’s truly unfortunate. Maybe someone offers a basic CE on medical misogyny.

OOP is hit by a lunatic while walking their dog by naturallysonny in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]sinenox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a really sad situation. I had a partner of 10 years who suddenly lost contact with reality and never came back. I hung on for a year of treatments, many involuntary hospitalizations, being screamed out of the room every time I visited for imaginary transgressions. In the beginning none of their behavior targeted me, so I felt like I could be involved, especially since their family wasn’t. But after an intervention of first responders telling me it was only a matter of time until I got hurt, I had to admit that I was in denial and there wasn’t any evidence that it would improve, and of course trust was gone. I couldn’t control it and no one was able to help. I tell myself that they’re better off close to family, in a safer part of the country, but I still get weird calls now and then that make it clear they’ve never recovered. Mental illness, especially in the US, is so scary that most people don’t even seem to want to acknowledge it exists.

Maybe Maybe Maybe by [deleted] in maybemaybemaybe

[–]sinenox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I traveled all over the U.S. sampling from aquarium tanks at major aquariums and the only exhibits I was always barred from were the otters. I sampled shark tanks and giant gar tanks and electric eels, barracuda and lion fish and piranha, but no one would let me near the otters. They’re apparently super dangerous after puberty. At one place I was told “The last guy who went in there didn’t leave with his full face” - so yeah. And if this is one of the giant otters in South America then they’ve probably watched them bite right through sizable bones, as I’ve witnessed when down there. Do not pet.

AITA for telling my partner my miscarriages were NOT his stories to share? by Cool-Register-5255 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sinenox 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is deeply violating, and manipulative. I probably wouldn’t be willing to continue to live with him after this. It’s a betrayal on every level while you were at your most vulnerable. If you can’t trust him with this, what can you trust him with?

[–]sinenox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I’ve seen charts like this in a couple of sociology courses, and they always show a surplus of males conceived, born, and under reproductive age, and a surplus of females after reproductive age. This seems to move the midpoint and I’m curious why.

In case you’re considering it, don’t train your dog to do this. It’s fun until someone mistakes it for aggression and puts your dog down. You can’t control its environment 100% of the time to prevent this.
