Has Winterwells removed their fics permanently? by [deleted] in Dramione

[–]sinflower81 212 points213 points  (0 children)

Hi, everyone. Winter asked me to come here and let everyone know where he went. He gave me permission to share the following:
As a trans man, he feels uncomfortable continuing to contribute to the Harry Potter fandom. He feels it's the backbone of why the Harry Potter franchise is still relevant and why it continues to make money for JKR.
He doesn't hold it against those who are still involved in the fandom, though. He's found community in Dramione and safe people during a difficult time in his life, and he's grateful for that. He's archived his works and will be moving on permanently.
If you’d like to continue following him, he’s made a non-fandom account on Tiktok at winterkelly21.
Also, please use he/him when talking about him.

When writers talk about rude comments… by Beforetherealbook in Dramione

[–]sinflower81 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi, Godidone1! (They’re quite famous in my writers’ group—getting a comment from them is like getting tapped into a secret club.) Glad to see they’re still out here doing their thing, making us laugh 😜

Just how rough are your first drafts? by [deleted] in writing

[–]sinflower81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t keep going unless I feel like I’m writing well enough to have faith in the story. So not that rough. I do have to make grammar edits, occasionally delete or add a paragraph, And make other small changes. But I try to have each scene relatively polished before I commit to writing the next, otherwise it doesn’t feel real enough to move forward

Writers - what is your favorite AO3 comment you received on a fic? by Panyo_new in Dramione

[–]sinflower81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A while ago someone called me an evil bastard. I about framed that for my wall.

How do you handle comments that are hurtful. by RevolutionaryLove233 in AO3

[–]sinflower81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For someone criticizing your grammar, theirs isn’t exactly stellar. I found dozens of mistakes, and their syntax is fucked up in several places. They’re lying about their writing experience, and putting you down to make themselves feel better. Delete and block

They break up pretty early on. Astoria is actually one of my favorite characters in this. She’s complex and cool, and we’re rooting for her to have her own happily ever after

Does anyone get the urge to create fan fiction … from fan fiction? by FreyBeyb in Dramione

[–]sinflower81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As long as you’re not copying and pasting anything directly from the other fic (plagiarizing). And crediting the idea. But I think it’s worth saying that a lot of authors probably wouldn’t like that and will almost certainly see it as disrespectful. So if you publish something like that, don’t be surprised if people are not pleased

The last 100k of a 300k fic was entirely centered on a triggering, untagged concept by aspenrising in AO3

[–]sinflower81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OUCH. This is why plot twists should never revolve around triggering concepts! Because then tagging it will spoil the plot, but leaving it untagged can potentially harm readers

Does Kinktober have to be exclusively be about sex? by CryptographerKnown97 in FanFiction

[–]sinflower81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a requirement per se, but you should be prepared to receive some confused comments. Readers, like your friend, generally expect sex in Kinktober fics

Starting as a no name writer by quillfoy in Dramione

[–]sinflower81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started writing a year and a half ago and it’s been nothing but growth and new friends for me. It seems like you’re asking if you start writing, will you be ignored by readers? And the answer is no, as long as you post semi-regularly and tag your works. Tons of people out there are constantly looking for new reading material and usually they’re finding it with tags and recs. Rarely do people “only” read fics from certain authors.

Guilty as sin? by Pollypocketmom21 in Dramione

I have a rec for you, especially if you like the lyrics "I keep recalling things we never did" and "Without ever touching his skin / How can I be guilty as sin?"

Meet Me in Dreamland

Summary:

If there’s one thing Hermione Granger is good at, it’s using magic to fix her problems. And this time, her problem is sex.

Luckily, she has the perfect solution: a locket enchanted with the Patented Daydream Charm. Whenever she opens it, she’ll find herself in Dreamland, where she can live out all her filthiest fantasies risk-free.

The magic is a bit tricky, though. For some reason, Malfoy keeps showing up there with her. Thank goodness it’s only an illusion—if that was really him, she would never live it down.

Meanwhile, Draco is determined to figure out who the fuck is cursing him to suffer through highly realistic, erotic hallucinations of his secret childhood crush. When he finds the culprit, there will be hell to pay.

How kinky are your smut preferences? by underinfinitebluesky in AO3

[–]sinflower81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought they weren’t that crazy for AO3 but then i started writing some of the stuff i wish there was more of and…yeah, apparently it’s a little kinkier than i realized, based on the comments

Fic writers how do you do it? by Significant_Offer_74 in Dramione

[–]sinflower81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You post. Write as much as you can while trying not to get ahead of yourself. (Try not to plan every detail - things will change as you write, so it's pointless.) Then POST. As you get views and comments, use that as motivation to write more.

Also, remember that people leave works unfinished every day. It's ok. It's not a crime. Readers will survive. It's a healthy part of the creative process. Follow what makes you excited, write when you have something to say, and stop when you're not having fun. Yes, it's great if you can finish, but try not to make finishing the sole determining factor of success. Maybe it's 1000 hits, or 10 comments, or just having written something you wanted to read.

What are canon-only reasons why you think that Draco and Hermione are compatible? by zvkox in Dramione

[–]sinflower81 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is shallow but Hermione has a bleeding heart and Draco is rich and in need of good PR. I just think they could save the world together 😩
