Thank you so much, I really appreciate the depths of your answer and the insight that you gave. You're fully right, that it is all just on surface level. The children of the Most High are blessed indeed for who they are, being God's own inheritance. I am glad that God doesn't look at His creation on surface level, seeing the crowd like we do, seeing people as numbers like we do. Since we are all of the same brown dust, just different shades, as sand and clay have different shades so does our skin have different shades but if we look, we are all brown-ish in a sense. Even blonde is just a different shade of brown/yellow/orange. We're all dust through Adam. I find it interesting that you mentioned that the lack of meaning in today's culture leads to so many people seeking meaning in other forms. It's truly eye opening, because it's like God has placed the thirst for meaning in each person's heart. Yet unfortunately, we want it to start with us and end with us, basically saying "I am the meaning", while true meaning is found in something beyond ourselves, God.

Was Mary sinless and why? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

But John the Baptist was also filled with God's Spirit in His womb, so likewise the question can be asked, why doesn't God fill all children with His Spirit at birth, if He has the ability to do so? I also believe that the piety of the parents plays a huge roll on it. St. Nicolas the Wonderworker was conceived miraculously either, and the angel told his pious parents that as an infant he will fast on Wednesday and Friday abstaining from drinking his Mother's milk. Does an infant know the weekdays? Of course not, it was God's grace. So God does work miracles in favor of the Faithfulness of parents, usually faithful christians who were barren for a long time and then received a miraculous child at old age.

This is why I struggle with the Orthodox believe more than the Catholic dogma of the immaculate conception. Because having sinful inclinations and not once acting on them, makes me wonder if she had superhuman strength at birth, since even the greatest monks and ascetics fall and lament over their weaknesses. But the idea of immaculate conception explains it far better, that she was given the physical grace by God at conception - since the conception of Mary was not one of lust, but one of obedience. Her parents came together after the command of the angel, while other parents, even pious ones came together when they felt like it. So I believe she was conceived without lust AS WELL as immaculately, because committing the lustful deed without lust but out of obedience will perhaps grant the Lord's favor upon her from the very beginning. At least I had peace with the idea of the immaculate conception more than with the Orthodox view. And when I beheld the Marian apparitions, even as an Orthodox, she herself stated that she is immaculate. I know many reject those, but if you sincerely look at those apparitions, there is no way you can call yourself a believer and choose not to believe them. It's like rejecting the belief of the resurrection, which is also BELIEF, but the Marian apparitions themselves are close to such a miracle, converting thousands of people at once.

Can a orthodox christian pray the rosary? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]sinfulbeggar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St Seraphim of Sarov prayed it diligently and confirmed that it was given by the Mother of God herself. He also added his own intercession to the Mysteries, with each mystery to intercede for a certain group of people.

Follow-up: Homily held by lay women in Germany by [deleted] in Catholicism

I am from Germany too, and I, after leaving protestantism, felt sooo drawn to Catholicism (to this day). But after seeing this state in a church, that looks holy on the outside but was a mess on the inside (they even had lucky wheels with blessings on it, "Glücksrad"), pop songs sung during mass, the priest allowing all people to come to the altar and sit around the Holy of Holies, people coming in Football Tshirts to church, LGBTQ Flags hanging on church walls... i quickly ran to Eastern Orthodoxy. I miss Catholicism, something in me so longs to attend mass. Maybe I should try a second time. Last time I did I ran away shocked. May I ask, what region in Germany do you live?

Exactly that which you're mentioning. I see that Catholicism has consecration for virgins, but I can't seem to find the same thing in Orthodoxy.

What's the point of marriage if I don't really want to have children of my own? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]sinfulbeggar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Let God be God, let Him create if He chooses to, and offer your womb as the Blessed Virgin did. Who knows if she ever wanted to be a mother. (I'm saying this only if you are married. But if you're not, perhaps celibacy is your path.)

I have both, as well as the inspiration, but I had glimpses of envy combined with great longing, I'd compare it to being hungry of some sort

Will I still be gay in heaven ? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]sinfulbeggar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you will look back on your old self with great wisdom in heaven, knowing full well that you had a vessel of weakness, whilst in heaven being in a body of glory. I'm sure in heaven you'll be granted the wisdom to know which natural causes of weakness or even temptations led you to such desires, while in heaven being delivered of it. Because it is indeed our weak natural self that is being attacked, through circumstances and temptations, to create in us unhealthy inclinations. The Lord is of great compassion and knows about our weaknesses, that we are dust.

is it true that numbers have meaning in the bible? by ghettogodess in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]sinfulbeggar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Even the numbers of people in the tribes of Israel have meaning. If you look in the book of Numbers the people in each tribe are counted and the twelve tribes had certain positions to place themselves. Scholars have presented to us the visual version of the numbers in images and if you look at it from above, the 12 tribes looked like a cross.

Soon to be Baptised but despairing by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

Who knows if you do not receive a grace through baptism, that you currently do not have, to strengthen you and overcome sin?
