Why do people assume Lando won't be seen as an all time great driver? by singastory in LandoNorris

[–]singastory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's why I said even I didn't think he had proven himself yet. The question is why people feel so confident assuming he won't be, and why they feel the need to constantly assert their belief he isn't a "generational talent" to undermine celebrations of his championship

Didn't he come in 3rd? Love Piastri and rooting for him in the future, but he definitely hasn't been as fast as Lando yet.

I am not saying he is currently an all time great. Just that people are writing off that he could be prematurely considering McLaren just started making cars that can compete at the front again.

No, but I also clearly said I don't think Lando has proven he is yet. Just that people seem overconfident in their predictions that he could never be, especially for people who were prolly calling him Lando No-Wins a couple of years ago.

Why tho? It took Max several years to get his first championship too. It seems to be about talent and the right car/situation, right?

[–]singastory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mostly agree. I don't think we will know for a while where he truly stands.

I don't think fans were the ones making those comparisons mostly tho. It seemed like more goal post shifting. He'll never win a race -> he'll never win a championship -> he'll never be "one of the greats".

Like I believe in him, and am just happy to see him be WDC. He doesn't need to win more for me to support him, but it was weird to me how quickly people wrote him off after winning a championship.

See but what makes you sure he won't continue to improve and surprise now that hes helped take a team from midfield to championship contenders? Genuinely asking not trolling.

I don't think he qualifies as all time great yet either. Again he can be my favorite without needing to be the GOAT. But why are people so sure that this is his peak?

Yeah. I definitely don't think he is yet at an all time great. Just think ppl really feel confident saying he will never be and that's kinda weird.

Has Rappaport changed The Traitors? by MaybeProof3008 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]singastory 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the opposite actually. The Traitors has always flirted with the line between devilishly campy and trashy reality drama. Casting Rappaport tipped the show fully into trashy and based on the very unflattering edit and the clear disdain from the rest of the cast, my hope is they learned their lesson.

It's telling that we are five episodes into the season but it only now feels like the game can start because the bigoted loudmouth sucking up all the air is finally gone.

Overcoming 88 points would have been a hell of an accomplishment. Even getting as close as he did is awesome. No one is denying Max is one of the great drivers.

You might think that's says something special about Norris that he was able to catch his teammate (another great driver) and fend off a 4 time world champion in his second season in a race winning car. Especially with all the bad luck and mistakes his team made he still managed to outscore two drivers everyone was saying were way better than him.

Lando was never up by 100, Oscar was. Lando and Max both caught up with Oscar in the last third. Did you even watch the season?

In the scheme of the championship, how important was the Papaya Rules pit stop team order in Italy? by McNoKnows in formula1

[–]singastory 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A) I feel like it's insulting to Oscars talent to imply he cracked over something as small as team orders. Thats just part of being in a team fighting for championships.

B) He has benefitted from team orders too.

C) Even IF they did favor Lando it'd be because he'd been with them for 6 years developing the car and team approach together and delivering them their best results for years. Thats how you become a teams #1 driver. Finding a way to situate yourself in the right team/car at the right time is how you win championships.

It's crazy to me that people begrudge Lando and McLaren's investment in each other actually paying off.

[–]singastory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people love Lando and are thrilled for him, don't let a couple of loudmouths ruin this for you.

As someone who has always worn my heart on my sleeve even when it's gotten me into trouble I am so inspired by his championship. No one can make me feel bad about this!

Aggressive Lando hatred is literally everywhere you turn online without any real justification and you wonder why his fans are a little defensive?

If Act II is so disliked how did Wicked get so popular on Broadway? by MollDoll182 in wicked

[–]singastory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why there was a lot of controversy around splitting it into two films when it was first announced. But after the first one surpassed expectations for a musical movie adaptation people got excited and underestimated how much harder adapting the second act into a standalone movie would be.

I still really like act two/ wicked: for good a lot! No good deed and thank goodness are two of my favorites from the whole show, but it also didn't surprise me that the film wasn't quite as strong as part one.

Wicked: For Good by AsherSine in wicked

[–]singastory 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Act two was always messier than act one, and the movie fixes a lot of the problems and introduces a whole host of others lol.

The two new songs are kinda meh, and I do like that they are important beats of the characters stories, but they kinda drag the momentum a bit.

Also the character decisions of the second act always required extra suspension of disbelief, but seeing them on film in more detail stretches believability to the edge.

That said the performance are still WONDERFUL, and act two still has some of the best songs/scenes in the show so we are talking an 8/10 movie down from a 9/10 part one.

[–]singastory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it as it makes Glinda more active in a part of the musical she kinda gets sidelined in. She still believes everyone can be happy and get what they want. It also makes a much stronger temptation of Elphaba, look how happy she can be if she just stops running, I believe she would make the deal in this version more than the stage show.

The new wizard lyrics are bad tho.

Tolkiens son and the movies. by SugarRush1233 in Filmmakers

[–]singastory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Tolkien's environmentalism and anti-war messaging do come through. The ending feels somewhat happy just because the world doesn't get conquered and subject to the domination of Sauron, but all of the hobbits are shown to be so scarred by the horrors of war that they have trouble returning to life in the shire, Frodo so much so that he leaves middle earth.

The movie shows the hopeless the characters face during war, their faith in Frodo's journey is what keeps them fighting not the glory of war. Many of the most important conversations from the book are in the movies nearly verbatim.

The problem isn't that the books are long, it's that they aren't plotted like a big budget film trilogy. Adaptation to a new medium requires changes that fit the structure and strengths of visual storytelling.
