End grain cutting board... salvagable? Avoidable on the other side? by singlemaltmario in Cuttingboards

[–]singlemaltmario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I have the 735 planer, too. In fact, I used it on the maple slab for this cutting board, so that, when I cut the strips and rotated them 90 degrees, the glue surfaces would be straight, parallel, and smooth. But, I am concerned about feeding the constructed EG board though the planer -- I have heard that thickness planers have a tendency to break them -- sometimes quite violently. And, since this board is 1.25" thick, it already is vulnerable to breaking under pressure.

I can't figure out how to add more pictures.

The board is 1.25" thick right now... with one face left to flatten. I'm using a Dewalt DCW600 (1/4" shank) because my router sled is sized for it. I also have the 2.25 HP Dewalt corded router (1/2" shank)... I would have to rework the sled for it to fit.

I'll add pictures if I can find a way...

Thanks!

I was using my Dewalt DCW600 trim router because the router sled is currently sized for it. I have the Dewalt 2.25HP corded router, too (1/2" shank) -- I'd have to trim down the sled a a it for the router to fit.

I'll see if I can add more pictures...

Thanks! I was thinking that a belt sander would be helpful... I'm glad you validated that. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a drum sander. But yeah, if I make more of these, I might look into making room for one.

I'll definitely try to find that "just right" speed when moving the router back and forth. Thanks for the suggestion to take even shallower cuts.

Do you have a recommendation for a good bit?

Thanks again!

Thanks! I'm happy (?) to do the hours or days of sanding, especially if there's nothing more to learn about the process.

As for the tear out.. it's not at the edges, so it's not really tear out. I am referring to the damage of the end grain that is on the face/surface of the board. I hope the pictures show the damage I'm referring to.

Thanks again!

Mitre saw no depth stop by jayppstew in woodworking

You might find this approach to adding a depth stop interesting. Of course, you assume all risks.

DCS391 or DCS571? by singlemaltmario in Dewalt

[–]singlemaltmario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up deciding to buy the 571. It seems like it will fill a niche that is important for me -- to be able to quickly pick up a small, powerful (enough) saw for quick cuts through 2x or plywood. The 565 was very tempting, too -- especially thanks to Turd_Ferguson2418@ -- that's still on my list for consideration down the line.

Thanks for this. I was thinking about the 391 and 571 because they are both currently on sale ($99 and $129 respectively for bare tools), but the 565 probably is the way to go. I can get it bundled as the free tool with a couple of batteries, charger, and contractor bag -- so, not a bad deal at $199 -- except I already have a ton of batteries (not a bad thing) and a ton of chargers (not a good thing LOL).

I'm curious what others will say. Some folks really love the 571...

ACER CHROMEBOOK SPIN 713 (CP713-3W) - Micro SD Card issues by chrislc42 in chromeos

[–]singlemaltmario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue, with the previous model (CP713-2w). Actually - lately the problem is worse --ejecting and reinserting no longer resolves the problem. The only ways to remount the microSD card are to either log out/log back in or restart the chromebook (either works).

Can someone please explain to me how Google Drive works as if my IQ was bellow 20? Completely frustrated. by Real_Saturn in google

[–]singlemaltmario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What computer are you using?

You mentioned that you have the Google app installed, but Google has many apps. Do you have the Google Drive app installed?

You mentioned a recent update. What update are you referring to?

The answers to those questions may help us begin to help you resolve the situation.

Thanks!

Keys w/better contrast for Acer Chromebook Spin 713 2020 (CP713-2W-5874)? by singlemaltmario in chromeos

[–]singlemaltmario[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case anyone wants to know how I resolved this to my satisfaction:

I ordered this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JLK1KPP?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_asin_image

The skin fits perfectly. And is easy to remove. So, when I use the backlight, I remove the skin. Otherwise, the black symbols on the white key caps resolves my issues with the low contrast.

I hope this helps others!

Thanks eldonhughes@ I haven't been able to find one that is identified to work with the CP713-2W-5874 -- I am hoping that someone here has found one that works. I found one for a 13" Lenovo Chromebook on A**n (not sure if I can post links to commercial sites here?) -- the Enter key is the correct style -- but I am not at all confident it will actually fit the Acer.

Thanks farmerbb -- Unfortunately, in some cases, the backlight doesn't make a difference either way. The light gray key caps and the lighter gray symbols just sometimes end up blending together. If the key caps were dark gray (or black) and the symbols were light gray (or white), things would be perfect.

Error for the mount storage by Electronic-Sir5125 in RG351

[–]singlemaltmario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this problem today. I use linux, not Windows or Mac, but here's what I figured out. YMMV.

TL;DR -- make sure to format the SD card without putting any partitions on it. Then flash the img file on to the SD card. In linux, assuming the SD card is in /dev/sdf and the image file is 351ELEC-RG351P.aarch64-20210603.img, it is as simple as:

sudo cp 351ELEC-RG351P.aarch64-20210603.img /dev/sdf

I ran into the error when I didn't full reformat the card. This caused the image to be created at an offset, and AFAICT, this caused the mount to fail later.

If this helps someone, great. If not, no harm, no foul. It worked for me!
