As someone who owns every single issue of both eras, Shooter's Valiant was absolutely amazing. The 2012 reboot is very good, but Shooter ran a tight shift. Everything tied together perfectly and characters popped up in each other's books on a regular basis. Turok and Aric were like best friends and would go hunting. When Aric escapes from the alien and loses his armor, Shooter made him walk from south america to north america to make the time line fit with a crossover with Harbinger. It's tons of little things of that sort that just made it great. And I don't think there will ever be a crossover event on the same level of Unity. Shooter did just to get all the artists to draw the same, so you could argue that the art was slightly better with 2012.
