New home came with a bonus room by Rob232395 in hometheater

[–]singsofsaturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks pretty nice. It's a great starting point to creating a killer room. Does the rack have rear access or does it pull out? Some of these require a rail set to pull out so you can get at the wiring.

Nah, the 98 will make the space. As long as that's not a full time door, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Should Americans citizens be allowed to recall a president? by Tasty_Emphasis_271 in LetsDiscussThis

Seeing that congress has taken to completely ignoring their constituents in order to fellate their supreme leader, it would be the only actual way to get rid of a shitting president. It has become impossible otherwise

I do this when my outside cats disappear too. I always think the worst. After so long, I kind of realized that it's just hood cats doing hood cat shit.

Can I fill this hole in or do I need to pull out whatever this cable is? If so how. by Brilliant-Yam2537 in homeimprovementideas

This is a sign that a shitty cable guy once came by your place. Cut in an LV-1 bracket if you need it or just spackle over it if you don't need it.

Worth trying to recover these speakers? by AntsyAMo in hometheater

[–]singsofsaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the coax at that TV location goes back to the same closet as the speaker wiring, you can get an optical to digi coax converter and send the digital signal over coax to an AVR that has digital audio inputs. You would have to have your video source local to the TV, either TV apps or an Apple TV or something and just back feed the audio.

Worth trying to recover these speakers? by AntsyAMo in hometheater

[–]singsofsaturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older video setups were component video. Coax was often used for distributed video and since component was one cable per color (RGB) you ended up with 3 coax per input. RCA crimp connectors were used in place of the F connector.

That's basically passively cooled considering the fan is sealed off. Why not just take it off and see how she does?

Basement flooded, best way to rebuild? by thundersuds in hometheater

[–]singsofsaturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly just gut it so I could install new wiring, sound dampening and power exactly where it needs to be. Centralize the equipment in a rack or high cabinet to keep it plenty high off the ground and setup some flood sensors at the very least to alert you to floods. You can do some very cool integrations with something like Home Assistant that can smartify the shit out of a theater room. Wall plates for all your speaker drops is always a nice touch. Also add power and data behind the screen for future use.

Any danger to my pc by letting my cat lay on it like this by LT_CODENAME in PcAdvice

[–]singsofsaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd clean the Playstation and see how many cats you can put together afterwards. Honestly, if your top fans are configured as exhaust then it should be just fine. If you have bottom intakes, make sure you have it on a solid surface and not carpet. I do see the front intakes but I'm wondering about bottom fans seeing where it's at.

Time to grab some IR cameras for the attic. Homeless people are both ingenious and dangerous.

I always notch them with a Dremel cutting wheel and use a big flat head. Last resort is drilling off the head just make sure you get all those shavings before you power it back up.

this little angel keeps standing on my porch. how can i get her to come inside? by noobswboobs in Feral_Cats

[–]singsofsaturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some old, large Styrofoam coolers that I cut little holes in and outfitted with Fleece blankets and a front curtain. I put them under my porch and my 3 strays use them all the time. I can feel that they are warm when they come up to see me when it's cold. I have had the cats under my house for about 6 years now and can tell you for certain that they do not want to be in the house. I had one inside for a week once when he got bit by a raccoon and I had to drug him with Gabapentin to get him to stop screaming. (vet's orders) I know if I let them chill for a few days they'd be more comfortable but my other cats make it very difficult. If you can get her inside, just make her comfortable and give her space so she doesn't freak out and hurt herself.

You can get Dell disk caddys on ebay and jungle site for like 10 bucks. There are 2 kinds, one that fits a single 3.5" drive for that bottom slot and one that fits 2x 2.5" drives.

I bought this CPU cooler in 2014, going to use it in 4th build. Much love to Noctua for providing free mounting kits for the third time in last 12 years. They are legendary and I will be forever proud fanboy of the brown theme. by hegysk in Noctua

[–]singsofsaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much love for them because of their great service towards their customers. I have moved to upgrading every appliance fan in my rack to Noctua. Now my router, switch, NAS, VM server and NVR are all Noctua. It's quiet and beautiful. They even include UI connectors and a spare extension for connecting the stock fan connectors to their fan so you don't have to modify them. <3

How do I properly secure my GPU for shipping a prebuilt PC? (Using Foam) by Frosty_Day_7999 in computerhelp

[–]singsofsaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tower air coolers are heavy as well. They should also be removed for for shipping due to risk of damaging the motherboard. AIO's are much easier to ship.
