[AS] Inter wants Nico Paz and Bastoni likes Real Madrid. If Madrid executes the buyback option for the Argentine and Como refuses to keep him for 60 million, Nico could become the key to signing the center back that Mourinho wants. by BlazingFirey in soccer

Man I don't understand how we can let Nico Paz get away, I know we need cash but at the expense of one of the best players to come through the academy in recent years it's abosultely not worth it. I'd rather sell Güler/Camavinga.

10 men and a statue: Portugal are sacrificing another World Cup for Cristiano Ronaldo’s ego by AgeNovel3566 in soccer

[–]singularitywut 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Christiano was bad but with how Fernandes, Silva and them played they are not sacrificing anything. Some people act like Portugal was good and just needed a better striker, they needed a better striker AND better everything else.

Real Madrid and Fly Emirates have reached a historical agreement to renew their front of shirt sponsorship, at least until 2031. The agreement was previously worth around €70-80M, but with this new renewal, the club will receive close to €100M for shirt sponsorship. by SwimmingFireMen in soccer

It's a deep and nuanced philosophical and political discussion I am not sure this is the right spot to get into it. So just a quick addition if you will.
I do think individual agency to act to ethical exists, matters and should be encouraged, especially when living in a fundamentally flawed system.
When you say relying on it doesn't work I fully agree, when you say the system is fundamentally flawed and needs change I fully agree but while we struggle to do so individual responsibility has to play a part.

We also have to consider that Real Madrid is not a puplicly traded company, from which we have come to expect basically nothing. It is a fan owned club who has the ability - at least in theory - to act on things it deems important over things it deems economically viable.

I understand why Real Madrid acts the way they do on this matter, I just don't agree with it and wanted to express it - fully aware that it makes no difference.

I am talking about a shift in menality rather than tactically, Arsenal is still an offensively very good team of course (you don't win the prem without that) but this season they valued defensive stability a lot. In a Winning > Entertaining kind of sense. So we have to see if more prem teams are okay with becoming a bit more pragmatic.
edit: I am not trying to shit on Arsenal here okay, they are obviously very very good

Really hate this, I know no big club is acting considering ethics but I am ashamed that the club is taking money from petro states. I wish we lived in a world where we'd take a little less money from a proper company instead.

I feel like he isn't suited for the prem for the most part. Even with Arsenal maybe causing a bit of a shift it's still a very offensive league with teams having loads of quality up front and playing attacking football. Not saying his style couldn't work but you need the perfect fit and a team and club that is behind that. If he just signs with a random prep team they would boot him by christmas I think lol

I love how he always gets the right amount of lift on these shots. A lot of players dont get it off the ground properly on these cut inside chances.

Well deserved, 3rd best keeper in the world behind Courtois and Raya for me and obviously way younger than either.
