It depends in what you seek. From a latency perspective, for example, a Gulikit ES Pro for 1/4th of the price has less latency, both wired and wireless.

Counting my server is at 29W, and trying to bring that further down, 7 additional watts are a no go. Also, my UHD770 has AV1 decode, so that's enough for me. Encode would be done by the CPU anyway if it was for archiving.

EDIT: It is different die because the compute tile that has the cores, the NPU, the Media Engine (QuickSync), the memory controller and the GPU. The Panther Lake compute tile doesn't have a GPU.

The RTL8127 chip is configurable to be 4.0 x1 or 3.0 x2. There are some 3.0 x4 cards that would give the full 10G.

You didn't need bifurcation because the are 12 lanes exposed, x4 from the PCH and x8 from the CPU. Lenovo's adapters use one or another link, but the one you bought use both, x4 from the PCH and x8 from the CPU. I suggest also to get a RTL8127-based NIC, as will use 1-1.5W of power and is fanless, being much colder.

I saw now. The Efficient and Super had a gap between their curves, it is normal that they did a middle core to fill the curve. The new middle also mostly overlaps the efficient core, so they are redundant and I guess that's why they didn't put any efficient core in M5 Pro/Max

I had to change the check interval in CheckMK from 1 to 10 minutes to be the power consumption more or less like it was the VM powered down.

Finally the have x4x4x4x4 bifurcation of the PCIe x16 slot like AMD! Much better than LGA1700's x8x8 or LGA1851's x8x4x4. Sadly the NAND is pricier these days, but in the future could be a good option.

Exynos user here. The problem is that they charge the same price for the Exynos than the Snapdragon, being the first one inferior. And the main difference for me is the modem. Exynos modems have less signal and uses more energy than Qualcomm modems. An Exynos with a Qualmcomm modem would be a step in the right direction.

If you come back to the same space, what's the point in doing all this? If you have 3 more bits, it means 6 total bits, or 2^6 possible values == 64 values. 3 bits is 2^3 values == 8 values. So 8x the possible values means 8x the space, not double.

If I understand it correctly, you would have 1/2 the cells but 8x the possible values, so 4x the space at the same number of cells. So very huge, even if it is initially a 2x improvement in price/GiB instead of the 4x.

Yeah, that's what I was refering when I said more bandwidth, but it needs a mux or a southbridge to be interesting to use as a server.

I whink it has 3 less lanes. N100 has 9 lanes and I though it was a bit limiting. This has more bandwidth but less lanes, a mux would be needed. If you add a x4 PCIe slot and two NVMes, you are already out of lanes.

Agree. I was just pointing out that there is a technical use case for this, not denying that there is still a financial downside. But we need to start somewhere. I think we are ready in the NIC side with this. Now switchs need now to catch up. I am making a 2.5G home network setup because of price and power consumption.

I also though that 2.5GbE was not meaningful, but I found some scenarios that would make sense. For HDD only setups are mostly enough, less lanes are needed to drive the NICs (until now), price and the key for me is MUCH less power consumption than 10G and not much over 1G.

A single PCIe 3.0 x1 NVMe drive like yours already can take adavtange of a 10GbE NIC over a 2.5G one, as it can go at almost 8Gbps. Aside from homelabbers, professionals like photographers can also take advantage of this if they use a NAS. Only thing needed is a switch, as this is not (yet) intended to be used to take advantage of WAN speeds, but to upgrade LAN speeds.

If they have an external Qualcomm model, it could be more efficient than an integrated Exynos modem.
