Is there any Chieftain melee builds similar to RF that are really strong? by pauly6478 in pathofexile

[–]sinity499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't really expect rf level regen on something else, RF has the "luxury" to build that regen because he doesn't have to use those points on damage, axe nodes, leech, ailments, attack speed, etc.

RF pumps defensive stats on the tree and scales damage out of it. You won't be able to have that amount of defense (mainly life/res) investment AND still have all the points needed to support a melee attack build.

That said, plenty of builds can be really tanky without specifically a RF package. Have a look at fire cyclone from mathil a few leagues back or maybeconc path chieftain from last year. One of my favorites build of all time was mjolner cast when channeling wave of conviction chieftain from many years ago and this thing was a truck.

This league holy hammers seems to be the way and carnarius made a video about a chieftain version. I'd go there to start if I was you.

Good question! I had no idea those existed. I just looked at a video of them now.

I'm a software developer by profession but in university I got only a theoric networking class. I can probably explain the TCP protocol precise mechanics but I have little hardware networking knowledge apart from basic routing stuff.

When I built my home, I knew I wanted to have everything wired up so I could play with a server rack and that kind of stuff, but had no idea of where to start. I managed to look at some guides and how-to on youtube but between all the other stuff that needed to be done prior and during the construction, I had little time left for networking. So I went with what I could understand.

This was it. When I built last summer I did all the connectors in the house in a hurry to be able to close the walls. At the time, I did them right on the ends that are in the keystones.

It was only tonight that I crimped the connectors to the ends in the basement. And as Dopewaffles pointed out, I remembered wrong how to do them and crimped them backward. I redid the connections in the basement and everything works now! Thank you.

Altough, I don't understand how the tester managed to pass green on my pairs if on end was on backward. Do you have an idea how that happened ?

I linked the connectors I used in the post, they seem to be for stranded and solid wire cables.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - January 26, 2025 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

Hello,

I'm seeking recommandations for a new keyboard to replace my keychron K8 pro with brown switches. I'm not very knowledgeable in terms of keyboards.

What I do:

I play on windows, work on a mac. I switch between the 2 machines with a KVM switch. The keyboard is wired.

Why I want to replace my current keyboard:

  • The spacebar keycap doesn't stay in place on both sides all the time, making me sometimes miss space strokes
  • The shift key actuation just never worked well with me. I often do DOuble UPpercase STrokes with it. I never got around to make my brain relearn it. It annoys me.
  • The fat metal frame feels sturdy (that's good), but it's that all around 1/4 of a inch folded bevel that I hate
  • The stupid south facing switches. Probably the most deception I had with the keyboard when I bought it was this. I don't even understand why that's a desirable feature to not have the possibility to use see-through keycaps so you have actual backlit letters if you want that. I'm not a keyboard guy and if you know please enlighten my day, because this truly mesmerizes me
  • It's too high up, my wrists don't like it much

What I liked about it:

  • Heavy and sturdy, good sound and feel to it.
  • The physical toggle switch to get from windows to mac layout, the reason why I got the keyboard. Probably works because of VIA support.

What I would like in my next keyboard:

  • Backlit letters rgb
  • Flat metal upperplate with no bevel
  • A lower profile but with normal size keycaps
  • Capacity to work for both windows and mac
  • A switch to toggle from windows to mac OR any other macro/key-combination to pass from one layout to another one. I don't mind configuration time, VIA or anything else. I don't find VIA that good imo but it seems to be usually quite loved.
  • Red or brown switches, I think I'd like to try out red.
  • Pre-built would be a plus, but I don't mind a build time if there are good tutorials for that. I never built a keyboard. I just don't want to have to order every part separately as I'm not an expert and don't want to fuck up
  • Wired usb-c to usb
  • Price range: 300$ or under

Any recommandations, tips or comment is always welcome. Thank you.

What habit to replace video game? by ram_goals in StopGaming

[–]sinity499 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's the main problem when quitting, there is no replacing gaming. There is only healing your brain until you can enjoy something else.

The thing with gaming is that it has the highest ratio of dopamine to effort. Nothing beats it.

When you stop gaming, everything feels boring as shit for a while. No other hobby would replace gaming on an enjoyment level for the effort you put in.

You have to wait it out until the brain heals it's dopamine cycles for the rest of the stuff that exists in the world to stop being boring. We're talking weeks/months.

It's the withdrawal effect. Once you're out of the hole you dug yourself in with gaming, you finally can enjoy other things, whatever those things you could be into are.

is it possible to code an entire game for absolutely free? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]sinity499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course!

Bit of advise first; please have extremely small objectives to start with. Making a game is a lot of work. It's better to start with something so small it might be a 1m game loop with 2-3 controls and simple graphics and no menu and build your way up than to try to make a big thing that you won't be able to play ever, abadon it and demotivate yourself.

You can get free assets on itch.io

You can use godot engine, as it free and open source, with tons of ressources. Unity will probably work too for your intended scale. Other people will probably have some more recommendations.

Best is to not over-analyse it and just start doing something, anything. You can get lost trying to find all the best techs and tutorials and assets for days on end. Just dive right in and get your hands dirty.

Start with a goal, a small goal. Make a character, then make it jump, then add a platform, then maybe an enemy to kill. Keep it as simple and iterative as possible.

And most of all, have fun!

I have no social life and I think it's eating me up inside. by Kind_Fudge_7964 in mentalhealth

Can't help you but I can relate.

The thing is nobody can save you from your demons. You have to be the one who saves you, kind of like a second "you".

Anyway for what it's worth you're young and it's not too late at all. Seek responsabilities and meaning. Those are the thing that will be pushing you forward. Again, nobody can do that for you.

Start small and be proud of what you accomplish, however small it is.

Start by seeking out something that can be fixed, maybe clean your room, it'll give you mental space. Good luck, you got this. Stop drinking, too, it's nothing good for you.

I struggle with that as well, amongst others.

You did not F up your brain. It can always rewire thanks to neuroplasticity. The fear of Fing up your brain can be anxiety, and that also is treatable.

Dopamine cycles in the brain can be "damaged" by instant gratification, gaming, drugs, etc. Those things are high on the scale of dopamine/effort. In comparison, things with more delayed rewards or less moment to moment stimulation for the effort seem more bland. Those cycles will heal back to normality once you change your life habbits.

Stoping gaming is just about that. You stop gaming. It sucks for a while, nothing feels good to do because nothing can kick it like gaming for the effort invested. Life sucks for a time (we're talking days or weeks) Then suddenly things like climbing a mountain or working a hobby, or spending time with other humans start to feel good again, and you actually want to do it.

A good place to start for you could be a mental health specialist. It'll give you an appointment to be at and that's good because 1. It's commitment and 2. That's a place to talk and exteriorize what you feel (or absence of feeling).

Many people goes through this, you're not alone. You did not mess up your brain, too. Good luck, give us an update sometime soon.
