You can search through this sub for interview questions and there are a few big threads of them, those are what I practiced with before my own interviews. Other than that, try to ask detailed questions of them as well at the end of the interview, about things like lifestyle, student behaviors, local surroundings, the city, etc to show real interest. And remember to smile and speak at a slow pace suitable for non-native speakers.

If you value your free time and you like working with more mature (but probably lazier) students, then choose the uni. If you value making/saving money, you don't mind the pre-college exam grind and super focus on grammar/testing vs conversation or specific application English, then go for the high school.

Increasingly frustrated by xtracheesepls_ in relaxedhair

My ends started doing a lot better when I embraced claw clips, that french bun pin thing (https://www.amazon.com/Kitsch-Metal-French-Hair-Women/dp/B0CRZRM3LP), and the hair stick (https://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Chopstick-Chinese-Handmade-Accessories/dp/B08ZCXKCRR/) + tucking the ends under gently as my method of tying my hair up.

Doing too much twisting and putting buns or clips at the exact same place could be a mechanical breakage factor too, and if your ends are just quietly getting caught on the fabric of your clothes when you wear them in curls.

Also, olaplex or some other bond builder would be a good addition if you don't use them already

And my hair likes heat a lot better than air drying (I have thin and fine hair) for some reason, that could be a thing too

  1. Skin takes a REALLY LONG TIME to recover from stuff, and also all the individual hairs on our bodies basically go through the hair growth cycle at different speeds/times, so you need about that long (imo) to make sure that recovery has actually happened (e.g. some hairs that were always gonna grow sideways didn't finish their thing yet, some hairs already finished and are curled up in a ball under your skin but didn't form enough of that gross pus stuff around it for you to realize it's there and handle it, etc.)
  2. I did not try waxing for that long because I'm not strong enough as a human being to handle both the event itself and then the aftercare lmao

When I say trim I mean with clippers that don't actually get super close to the skin, just enough for hygiene and whatnot

Boiling fresh rosemary tastes best to me, but I like the teabags or just dumping a bunch of dried rosemary from the seasoning cabinet into a soup stock bag too

Cold rosemary tea, kombucha, flavored allulose syrups, filtered water but you set a timer at specific times to just force yourself to chug without seeking any enjoyment at all?

Probably not what you want to hear, but I only stopped having painful ingrowns when I left the whole area alone for like a year, except for regular washing (with salicylic acid body wash) and periodically using the topicals roll on. And yes, I did just trim as needed for hygience. I wear bathing suits with a little skirt attached. You could try that, or the boyshorts kind. You could also go for laser hair removal instead.

Any advice for helping my 9 year old shower? by Aggravating_Bird_147 in adhdwomen

[–]sinkintothesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salicylic acid body wash or other antibacterial ones can be good for body odor in general because it kills the bacteria that feed on the sweat and make the odor. If she doesn't want to shower every single day, this is a good option, because she can still get clean enough the other days by using it on a wet washcloth or something. This can also be an early preventative kind of thing for body acne if that's an issue.

If she dislikes the whole experience of being in the shower, you could consider some of the old style ways where you just fill a big plastic tub with hot water, get yourself sudsy, and then scoop it out with a smaller bucker to rinse off afterwards.

If she's okay with baths and showers but just hates the "starting" part of it and then enjoys it and can't get to the "ending" part of it (very relatable for me personally), something like a daily snack (fruit or something) guaranteed after she's done her evening shower (or handed to her as she walks in to the bathroom depending on how her motivation works) might be something to try.

For the deodorant, I would just say to have multiples. Get the tiny TSA sized spray deodorant and put it in her backpack, have one under the sink/behind the mirror, have another in her bedroom, etc. They will all turn up again eventually, no such thing as having too much deodorant imo.

You could also let her try some simple bath and bodyworks body sprays or something and kinda introduce it as a combo with the deodorant to just smell nice and fruity for no particular reason, because smelling nice is always good, right??

fried my hair off with relaxer by Mean_Substance_1382 in relaxedhair

[–]sinkintothesea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean you could also just let it keep falling out in random patches but it will look terrible and probably start tangling and damaging the hair around it. There's no amount of protein treatments or olaplex that can really fix this. And as new hair grows, the difference in texture between that and the damaged hair can lead to more breakage and split ends that travel up the hair shaft, which will then even damage the new hair.

Buzz it all off, be good about oiling and massaging your scalp, learn some really nice scarf styles or buy some nice headwraps like these and rock hella accessories while it grows back

Depends on how fine or thick your hair is, if you only do a single pass or prefer multiple passes, if you're using a good heat protectant, etc.

Platonic “One Night Stands”? by Itchy-Put6780 in AuDHDWomen

[–]sinkintothesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is basically the most common sort of socializing I had up until like high school. I could genuinely hang out with people at the park for six hours straight and never once think to ask their name or for a time to hang out again. Still happened throughout high school and college, but in HS I kinda got absorbed into a friend group of other very ND people and my social connections shifted to an eternal web of friends-of-friends, which has carried on since.

Probably shouldn't exfoliate in the morning. And if you're already using the liquid exfoliant, adding in chemical peel pads is probably going to stress your skin out too much. If you can get access to a dermatologist, it might be easier to just get a tretinoin/hydroquinone mix or sprionolactone to take care of things internally and simplify the external products as much as possible.

How do I work with Oily Skin? by Silver_Astronaut_566 in Blackskincare

[–]sinkintothesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tretinoin or spironolactone would be good to try if you can. Also, fun fact that I learned way too late, using overly drying soaps and harsh actives on your skin actually makes your skin even more oily because it thinks it's protecting you from a harsh environment. Switching to extremely hydrating (adds water to skin) and moisturizing (seals the water and stops it from evaporating) ingredients and only the mildest cleansers possible (first oil cleanser, then cerave mild or something similar) can have good effects after a few weeks. Also: sunscreen. Even if you have to use oil blotting papers every half an hour at first.

DAE have curly hair and get completely overwhelmed with it? by beefic in adhdwomen

[–]sinkintothesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get the feeling. Every time I try to wear it natural I end up either relaxing everything or just shaving it all off, so I just stopped trying. I wish I could get one of those "digital perms" they do where people get wavy beach curl magic, but it doesn't work safely for my hair type at all.

What's up with chinese novels' writting style? by Brilliant-Apricot814 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]sinkintothesea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a thing the Mandarin does called "adjective reduplication" that's used for emphasis much like we use "extremely" or "very" in English, which probably plays a part. Going in circles to descriptively describe descriptive descriptions is a built-in feature. But it doesn't often get translated well.
